This article is a guide to changing appearances with the use of items and spells.

ArakkoaEdit

• During the quest  [62] Messenger to the Feralfen, you obtain [Ahuurn's Elixir]. It is reusable for as long as needed to complete the quest. Usable only in at the Boha'mu Ruins.
• During the quest  [70] A Shabby Disguise, you gain access to [Shabby Arakkoa Disguise]. It can only be used in Terokkar Forest.
• A rare drop, [Time-Lost Figurine], has a small chance to drop from Terokk that will allows you to transform into an Arakkoa anywhere lasting for 5 minutes.

BasiliskEdit

• Eating [Magic Eater], which can only be fished up from the sewers of Dalaran, has a small chance to turn you into a basilisk for 60 seconds. This effect also prevents spell casting.

BatEdit

Only able to transform into a bat during Hallow's End.

• Trick or treating with Innkeepers gives you a chance to get "Trick," transforming you into a bat for 1 hour.
• [Hallowed Wand - Bat] allows you to turn a party member into a bat (100% chance).
• [Hallowed Wand - Random] allows you to turn a party member into a bat (14% chance).

Blood ElfEdit

• Using the item [Orb of Deception] a Draenei can transform into a Blood Elf, for a limited time (5 minutes).
• During the quest  [68] Information Gathering you gain access to [Sunfury Disguise]. It can only be used around Manaforge Coruu, in Netherstorm. Unlike most disguises, you can mount up in this one.
• During the quest  [70] What Illidan Wants, Illidan Gets..., you gain access to [Blood Elf Disguise]. It can only be used in Eclipse Point. Leaving the area, or performing mostly any action will cause you to lose the disguise.
• During the quest  [70] Dissension Amongst the Ranks..., you gain access to [Enchanted Illidari Tabard]. It can only be used in Eclipsion Fields.
• Using the [Orb of the Sin'dorei] that drops from any of the four bosses in Magisters' Terrace, anyone can turn into a Blood Elf for 5 minutes, and it doesn't need to be equipped like the Orb of Deception does.

Draenei-only

• Upon starting the quest  [20] What We Don't Know..., you are transformed into a blood elf for 10 minutes. The disguise also causes you to speak in Thalassian and persists even after the quest is complete.

Engineers-only

• Having the [Ultrasafe Transporter: Toshley's Station] malfunction has a chance to change you into a Female Blood Elf for 1 hour.
• Having the [Dimensional Ripper - Area 52] malfunction has a chance to change you into a Female Blood Elf for 1 hour.

BrokenEdit

• During the quest  [70] Ruse of the Ashtongue you'll gain access to [Ashtongue Cowl]. It can only be used in The Eye and is the only disguise that stays on for druids. Lasts 1 hour or until you leave the instance.

CatEdit

Alliance-only

• After accepting the quest  [10] Totem of Vark, a furbolg spirit will transform you into a Ghost Saber. The buff also increases land speed greatly, and grants invisibility for a few minutes.
• During  [20] A Lost Master (2), you gain access to [Enchanted Moonstalker Cloak] that will transform you into a Moonstalker for 5 minutes, or until canceled. It can only be used in Darkshore, and the spell breaks when any action is taken.
• The quests  [19] Leave No Tracks and  [19] Stepping Up Surveillance provide you with the [Panther Figurine] that transforms you into a prowling panther with [Stealth].

CrabEdit

Midsummer Fire Festival time-only

• During the quest  [70] An Innocent Disguise you gain access to [Orb of the Crawler], which lets you turn into a crab for 3 minutes. It can only be used in the Zoram Strand of Ashenvale.

CrittersEdit

• During phase 2 of the Nefarian fight in Blackwing Lair, the raid's mages will cause random members to be polymorphed into one of the following:

Cow • Carrion grub • Giraffe • House Cat • Squirrel

• Eating [Magic Eater], which can only be fished up from the sewers of Dalaran, has a small chance to turn you into a roach for 45 seconds. This effect also prevents spell casting.

• You have a chance to be randomly sheeped while in Dalaran by Minigob Manabonk <The Mischievous Mage>. Which a sometime later you get an item in the mail from him, the [The Mischief Maker], which can then be used on someone else. Only usable in Dalaran, this lasts 30 seconds or until canceled.

Horde-only

• After completing  [10] Zalazane from Sen'jin Village, talking to Bom'bay, he might turn you into the following: (Repeatable and year-round)

Snake • Chicken • Frog

PvP/Duel-only

• Mages can polymorph another player into a:

Sheep • Pig • Turtle • Black Cat • Penguin • Rabbit

Noblegarden time-only

• Looting Brightly Colored Eggs during the event has a chance to turn you into a pink rabbit for 60 minutes. Prevents spell casting and will break with damage.
• The item [Blossoming Branch] can also be used on players in your party to transform them into a white rabbit for 60 minutes. Prevents spell casting and will break with damage.

Hallow's End time-only

• Trick or treating with Innkeepers, you have a chance to get "Trick", transforming you into a: (Lasts for only 30 seconds)

House cat • Frog • Mini-Diablo • Snake • Worm

Pilgrim's Bounty time-only

• The item [Turkey Shooter] will transform any player target into a turkey. Lasts up to 60 minutes. Most actions will cancel the effect.

Engineers-only

• Having the [Ultrasafe Transporter: Toshley's Station] malfunction has a chance to change you into a chicken for 3 minutes.
• The [Gnomish Poultryizer] will turn you into a small chicken for 15 seconds if it malfunctions.

CrowEdit

• During the quest  [63] As the Crow Flies you're given [Stormcrow Amulet], which when used will transform you into a storm crow. Can only be used next to Ysiel Windsinger. You will not have control of your actions.

DraeneiEdit

• Using the item [Orb of Deception] a blood elf can transform into a draenei, for a limited time (5 minutes).
• Using [Overseer Disguise], that is created with 5 [Costume Scraps] (drop off mobs around Blackwing Coven), will turn you into a draenei for 3 mins. Only usable in Blackwing Coven, any action will destroy the disguise. WARNING: Do not use disguise while in an animal form, druids, as the item will be used and canceled at the same time.

Engineers-only

• Having the [Ultrasafe Transporter: Toshley's Station] malfunction has a chance to change you into a Female Draenei for 1 hour.
• Having the [Dimensional Ripper - Area 52] malfunction has a chance to change you into a Female Draenei for 1 hour.

Dragon whelpEdit

• Using 5 [Costume Scraps] to create a [Overseer Disguise] in Blade's Edge Mountains, you'll be able to speak to and buy from Wyrmcult Provisioner in order to get [Orb of the Blackwhelp], which will allow you to transform into a whelp anywhere for 15 minutes.
• Eating [Magic Eater], which can only be fished up from the sewers of Dalaran, has a small chance to turn you into an emerald whelp for 60 seconds. This effect also prevents spell casting.

DwarfEdit

• Using the item [Orb of Deception] a troll can transform into a dwarf, for a limited time (5 minutes).

Engineers-only

• Having the [Ultrasafe Transporter: Toshley's Station] malfunction has a chance to change you into a Male Dwarf for 1 hour.
• Having the [Dimensional Ripper - Area 52] malfunction has a chance to change you into a Male Dwarf for 1 hour.

Dark IronEdit

• Through talking with the  Dark Iron Brewer in the Grim Guzzler in Blackrock Depths a mug is spawned that can be looted for [Dire Brew], which transform into a Dark Iron dwarf for 60 minutes when used.

IronEdit

• The quest item [Overseer Disguise Kit], provided for the quests  [75] Loken's Orders and  [75] Put on Your Best Face for Loken, will transform you into an Iron Rune Overseer for 15 minutes with a 30 second cooldown. Only usable in Dun Argol it will be removed when you leave or try to mount up.
• The reusable item [Iron Boot Flask], purchased from either  Olut Alegut or  Rork Sharpchin in Storm Peaks for 10 Relic of Ulduar, will transform you into an iron dwarf for 10 minutes with a 60 minute cooldown. Only mounting will break this early.
• The player will have a chance to turn into an iron dwarf with a given proc of the [Deathbringer's Will] ([heroic]). Lasts for 30 seconds.

FishEdit

• Using the item [Hook of the Master Angler] from the Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza will transform you into a fish until you disable it or leave the water.

FurbolgEdit

•  Meilosh at the entrance to Timbermaw Hold in far northern Felwood will sell the [Stave of Fur and Claw] to adventurers who are Exalted with the Timbermaw Hold faction. It transforms you into a furbolg for 3 minutes (1 hour cooldown).

Alliance-Only

• The quest  [25] Dartol's Rod provides an item called just [Dartol's Rod] that transforms you into a furbolg until cancelled, but it's only useable within Ashenvale (10 sec cooldown). If you never do  [26] A New Adornment, you can keep it.
• The [Dartol's Rod of Transformation] makes you appear as a furbolg for 3 minutes. The item itself can be kept forever even after completing the last quest of Raene's Cleansing.
  • This item and related quest were removed in Cataclysm, so the rod is not available to players who have not already acquired it.

GhostEdit

• Will become a ghost when you die and release (not including night elves).
• During the quest  [52] Meet at the Grave you can use the item [Videre Elixir] to kill yourself, thus transforming into a ghost.
• Drinking [Ethereal Oil] will give you a ghostly effect for 5 minutes.

The following only available during Hallow's End:

• Trick or treating with Innkeepers you have a chance to get "Trick", transforming you into a ghost for 1 hour.
• [Hallow's End Pumpkin Treat] has a 25% chance of transforming you into a ghost.
• [Hallowed Wand - Ghost], allows you to turn a party member into a ghost (100% chance).
• [Hallowed Wand - Random], allows you to turn a party member into a ghost (14% chance).

GnomeEdit

• Using the item [Orb of Deception] a tauren can transform into a gnome, for a limited time (5 minutes).
• During the Feast of Winter Veil devices outside all major cities will transform you into a Winter Veil elf (gnome).
• [Narain's Turban] transforms one into Narain Soothfancy, but works only in Winterspring. It is one of the provided objects for the quest  [60G] Decoy!.
• Drinking lots of [Pygmy Oil] turns anyone into a female voodoo gnome.
• Using the item [Gnomeregan Pride] an Alliance player can take the look of a Gnomeregan warrior for 30 minutes. Most actions can be performed, however may hinder a few things that don't allow a "shapeshift form" (such as the Goblin Rocket Pack). It has a 4 hour cooldown.

Engineers-only

• Having the [Ultrasafe Transporter: Toshley's Station] malfunction has a chance to change you into a Female Gnome for 1 hour.
• Having the [Dimensional Ripper - Area 52] malfunction has a chance to change you into a Female Gnome for 1 hour.

LeperEdit

• [Discombobulator Ray] turns the target into a Leper Gnome for 12 seconds. So if you want to be the leper, have a friend on the opposing faction blast you.
• [Hallowed Wand - Leper Gnome], allows you to turn a party member into a leper gnome (100% chance).
• [Hallowed Wand - Random], allows you to turn a party member into a leper gnome (14% chance).

GoblinEdit

Only available during Hallow's End:

• Trick or treating with Innkeepers you have a chance to get "Trick", transforming you into a goblin for 1 hour.
• [Hallowed Wand - Random], allows you to turn a party member into a goblin.

GorillaEdit

• Using [Super Simian Sphere] transforms you into a gorilla. It is a world drop from WotLK raids, high instances, Storm Peaks, or Icecrown. The trinket has a 5 minute effect and a 1 hour cooldown.

HumanEdit

• Using the item [Orb of Deception] an orc can transform into a human, for a limited time (5 minutes).
• Unless already human or a dwarf, upon entering the instance Escape from Durnholde Keep or Culling of Stratholme the bronze dragonflight will transform you into a human for historic purposes.
• Using [Underbelly Elixir] has a chance to change you and everyone around you into a human mage. Lasts for 10 minutes and only happens while in Dalaran.

Death knights only.

• After accepting the quest A Meeting With Fate you'll be turned into a human member of the Scarlet Crusade, along with your deathcharger into a Swift Brown Steed. Completing the quest will remove this disguise, or if you go beyond the town it will be removed, but reapplied as soon as you reenter the town.

NinjaEdit

• Using the item [Savory Deviate Delight] you have a 50/50 chance of becoming a ninja.
• [Hallowed Wand - Ninja], allows you to turn a party member into a ninja (100% chance).
• [Hallowed Wand - Random], allows you to turn a party member into a ninja (14% chance).

PirateEdit

• Using the item [Savory Deviate Delight] you have a 50/50 chance of becoming a pirate.
• [Hallow's End Pumpkin Treat] has a 25% chance of transforming you into a pirate.
• [Hallowed Wand - Pirate], allows you to turn a party member into a pirate (100% chance).
• [Hallowed Wand - Random], allows you to turn a party member into a pirate (14% chance).

KoboldEdit

Engineers-only

• Having the [Ultrasafe Transporter: Gadgetzan] malfunction has a chance to change you into a Kobold very briefly (10 seconds). You won't be able to move.
• Having the [Dimensional Ripper - Everlook] malfunction has a chance to change you into a Kobold very briefly (10 seconds). You won't be able to move.

MageEdit

Horde-only

• Those who complete  [19] Farewell, Minnow in Azshara recieve a [Faded Wizard Hat] from  Sorata Firespinner. This nice, pointy had also gives you the appearance of a random Horde-race (and occasional human, gnome, or night elf) mage's apprentice (30 min cooldown).

MurlocEdit

• Using the item [Murloc Costume] will allow you to wear a murloc costume. Only way to have this was to have gone to Blizzcon '07. Disguise is removed when mostly any action is taken.
• During the quest  [72] Surrender... Not! you are provided with  [King Mrgl-Mrgl's Spare Suit] which will allow you to wear a murloc costume similar to that available from Blizzcon '07. However, this murloc costume carries a white flag of truce, instead of a Blizzcon flag.

Engineers-only

• Having the [Ultrasafe Transporter: Gadgetzan] malfunction has a chance to change you into one very briefly (10 seconds). You won't be able to move.

NagaEdit

• Using the [Slitherblade Charm] provide for the quest  [32] Going Deep transforms you indefinitely into a Slitherblade naga (with +150% movement in water and waterbreathing), but only in Desolace. Added in Patch 4.0.3.
• The high-level Archaeology artifact, [Bones of Transformation], makes you look like a naga (no water-breathing or swim bonus) for 20 sec (10 min cooldown). Kinda lame actually. Added in Patch 4.0.3.

Night ElfEdit

• Using the item [Orb of Deception] an undead forsaken can transform into a night elf, for a limited time (5 minutes).

Engineers-only

• Having the [Ultrasafe Transporter: Toshley's Station] malfunction has a chance to change you into a Male Night Elf for 1 hour.
• Having the [Dimensional Ripper - Area 52] malfunction has a chance to change you into a Male Night Elf for 1 hour.

ObjectEdit

CrateEdit

• During the quest  [69] To Legion Hold you gain access to [Box o' Tricks], which can only be used in Legion Hold near the Legion Communication Device. You will not be able to move.

HerbEdit

• Using the [Lifegiving Seed] will change your character into a random herb model and put them in a stunned state (no movement or shapeshifting). Can't be used in combat. [Herbouflage] stays until you manually cancel it by right-clicking buff icon.

Plant Edit

Alliance-only

• The quest  [15] Axis of Awful provides [Cannary's Cache] which contains the [Clever Plant Disguise Kit]. This kit turns you into some sort of shrub, but only works in Loch Modan. It may also be a drop from some mobs in the area during the quest. Added in Patch 4.0.3.

SandfernEdit

• During the quest  [76] Crocolisk Mastery: The Ambush you gain access to [Sandfern Disguise], which can only be used next to the large log in River's Heart. You will not be able to move.

TreeEdit

Alliance-only

• During the quest  [9] Tree's Company you gain access to [Tree Disguise Kit], which can only be used on Silvermyst Isle near the naga flag. You will not be able to move.

OrcEdit

• Using the item [Orb of Deception] a human can transform into an orc, for a limited time (5 minutes).
• During the quest  [65] Who Are They? you'll be transformed into an orc to gain information. Performing any action (other than talking), or leaving the immediate vicinity, will break the disguise. Shadowy Hunters will also be able to see through the disguise.

Alliance-only

• During the quest  [72] It Was The Orcs, Honest! you're given [Crafty's Sack] which contains a [Warsong Orc Disguise]. This disguise makes you look like a Warsong orc, but only in the Magmoth subzone of Borean Tundra. Added in Patch 3.0.1.

Engineers-only

• Having the [Ultrasafe Transporter: Toshley's Station] malfunction has a chance to change you into a Female Orc for 1 hour.
• Having the [Dimensional Ripper - Area 52] malfunction has a chance to change you into a Female Orc for 1 hour.

Fel OrcEdit

• After completing the quest chain Ally of the Netherwing you'll be able to enter the areas of Dragonmaw Fortress and Netherwing Ledge (provided you can fly) and transform into a fel orc. Lasts until you leave the areas.

OgreEdit

• The crafted [Gordok Ogre Suit] allows you to become an ogre for 10 minutes. It can be used anywhere, but only once.

• [Carved Ogre Idol] allows you to become a hulking red ogre for 10 minutes. It is obtained only as a World of Warcraft Trading Card Game reward. It costs 25,000 UDE points for this trinket.

Engineers-only

• Having the [Ultrasafe Transporter: Gadgetzan] malfunction has a chance to change you into a Ogre very briefly (10 seconds). You won't be able to move.
• Having the [Dimensional Ripper - Everlook] malfunction has a chance to change you into an Ogre very briefly (10 seconds). You won't be able to move.

Horde-only

• The quest  [48] Un-Chartered provides a [Refurbished Ogre Suit] to disguise yourself as a Dunemaul Ogre, but it only works in Dunemaul Compound.

Scarlet Crusade Edit

Horde-only

• The [Rotten Apple] found in [Nathanos' Chest] which was provided for the quest  [60] Nathanos' Ruse. It would make you look like a member of the Scarlet Crusade.
  • Quest, and therefore chest with item, appears to have been removed in Patch 4.0.1.

SkeletonEdit

• Available year round the [Noggenfogger Elixir] is purchasable from Marin Noggenfogger, after completing his quests.

The following only available during Hallow's End:

• Trick or treating with Innkeepers you have a chance to get "Trick", transforming you into a skeleton for 1 hour.
• [Hallow's End Pumpkin Treat] (25% chance)
• [Hallowed Wand - Skeleton], allows you to turn a party member into a skeleton (100% chance).
• [Hallowed Wand - Random], allows you to turn a party member into a skeleton (14% chance).

SnowmanEdit

• Using the item [Winter Veil Disguise Kit] along with a [Snowball] will transform you into a snowman. You won't be able to move, but the form lasts indefinitely, until the buff is canceled.

TaunkaEdit

• The player will have a chance to turn into a taunka with a given proc of the [Deathbringer's Will] ([heroic]). Lasts for 30 seconds.

TaurenEdit

• Using the item [Orb of Deception] a gnome can transform into a tauren, for a limited time (5 minutes).

Engineers-only

• Having the [Ultrasafe Transporter: Toshley's Station] malfunction has a chance to change you into a Male Tauren for 1 hour.
• Having the [Dimensional Ripper - Area 52] malfunction has a chance to change you into a Male Tauren for 1 hour.

TigonEdit

• Wearing both the [Thekal's Grasp] and [Arlokk's Grasp] will give you a chance to gain the buff Primal Blessing and transform into a tigon for a limited time.

TrollEdit

• Using the item [Orb of Deception] a dwarf can transform into a troll, for a limited time (5 minutes).
• Using the item [Darkspear Pride] a Horde player can take the look of a Darkspear warrior for 30 minutes. Most actions can be performed, however may hinder a few things that don't allow a "shapeshift form" (such as the Goblin Rocket Pack). It has a 4 hour cooldown.

Engineers-only

• Having the [Ultrasafe Transporter: Gadgetzan] malfunction has a chance to change you into one very briefly (10 seconds). You won't be able to move.
• Having the [Ultrasafe Transporter: Toshley's Station] malfunction has a chance to change you into a Male Troll for 1 hour.
• Having the [Dimensional Ripper - Area 52] malfunction has a chance to change you into a Male Troll for 1 hour.

TuskarrEdit

• Using [Underbelly Elixir] has a chance to change you into a half naked tuskarr, this will also increase your fishing skill by 50. Last for 10 minutes and only works while in Dalaran.

Twilight's Hammer clan Edit

• Two quests in Thousand Needles,  [45] Behind You! and  [45] The Elder Crone provide you with [Bulwark Disguise] that makes your character look like a member of the Twilight's Hammer clan. Added in Patch 4.0.3.

UndeadEdit

• Using the item [Orb of Deception] a night elf can transform into an undead forsaken, for a limited time (5 minutes).
• In the Lost Fleet, cursed sailors and marines can cast the debuff Curse of the Eye, which reduces physical damage by 8, and slows spell-casting by 20%, and transforms you into a transparent Undead for 2 minutes.

Day of the Dead time-only

• Performing a /dance with Catrina‎ will transform you into an undead for 12 hours.

VrykulEdit

• The player will have a chance to turn into a vrykul with a given proc of the [Deathbringer's Will] ([heroic]). Lasts for 30 seconds.

FrostEdit

• After accepting and completing the quest Discipline from Mildred the Cruel, you'll change into a female frost vrykul (no matter your gender), every time you enter the Brunnhildar Village or Forlorn Mine.

WaspEdit

• Using [Underbelly Elixir] has a chance to change you into a slow flying wasp, not just hovering but actually flying around like if on a flying mount. Will only happen so long as you're in the Dalaran sewers. Last for 10 minutes.

WispEdit

• Eating [Magic Eater], which can only be fished up from the sewers of Dalaran, has a small chance to turn you into a wisp for 60 seconds. This effect also prevents spell casting.
• Night elves turn into one when they die and release.
• Trick or treating with Innkeepers (during Hallow's End), you have a chance to get "Trick", transforming you into a wisp for 1 hour.
• [Hallowed Wand - Wisp], allows you to turn a party member into a wisp (100% chance).
• [Hallowed Wand - Random], allows you to turn a party member into a wisp (14% chance).

WolfEdit

• Using [Rituals of the New Moon] allows you to change into either a giant White Wolf, Black Wolf, Grey Wolf or Red Wolf for 2 minutes. This can be used anywhere. This form is canceled if the book is removed from your off-hand slot. You cannot attack or cast spells in this form.
• A Ghost Wolf form is available to shamans only.

WolvarEdit

• Using [Frenzyheart Brew] transforms you into a Wolvar. It has a chance to be contained in the [Ripe Disgusting Jar], created after 7 days from [Disgusting Jar] (a reputation reward from the Frenzyheart Tribe). The buff lasts 10 minutes, and has a 30 minute cooldown.

WorgEdit

• First provided for the quest  [71] In Worg's Clothing, the [Worg Disguise] is used in a small series of quests so that you can communicate with Ulfang in Howling Fjord. Most actions will remove this disguise. Only usable in Howling Fjord.

WorgenEdit

• While raiding Karazhan a Sealed Tome containing [Torment of the Worgen] will, when it procs, transform you into a worgen for a very limited amount of time.
• While being attacked by Bloodmoon Cultist or Bloodmoon Worgen on Bloodmoon Isle in Grizzly Hills there is a chance you'll get an [Infected Worgen Bite], which stacks up to 3 times. On the third bite you'll turn into a worgen (preventing spell use) for 60 seconds. Curing this disease or waiting it out is the only way to remove it.
