General Info
AIE is a very casual guild. We are not a strict raiding guild nor a strict PvP guild nor a strict role-playing guild (although we may have groups of people in the guild who pursue such interests). We are a guild that believes that players of World of Warcraft should be given the opportunity to experience multiple aspects of game play and that a lack of experience does not imply a lack of aptitude.
Every voice in AIE is equal, and we enjoy open conversation as long as you do not belittle your fellow members. If you have any ideas/suggestions/comments/etc, please submit them to the officers at any time.
As a member of AIE with the tag over your character’s head, you represent AIE as a whole and are expected to act accordingly. You may not get along with everybody in the guild, but you are expected to be polite and civil to your fellow guildmates.
The guild policy will be published at http://www.aie-guild.org/policy. Ignorantia legis neminem excusat, ignorance of the law excuses no one. Every member is expected to be familiar with the guild policies and abide by them.
Applying For Admission
Membership is available to all listeners of the above mentioned podcasts and to the population of Earthen Ring. All perspective players must have leveled their characters to level 10 and MUST file an application.
Applications for new members may only be submitted during the first seven days of each month. Applications for alts of existing Cohorts may be submitted at any time. This process is subject to change, and is designed to lighten the load of applications officers receive.
If you are transferring a character from another realm, please consider rolling a new character on Earthen Ring, leveling it to 10, and seeing how you like AIE before spending any money for a transfer.
AIE does not make any distinctions between main characters and alternate characters, every character needs an application. There are no current restrictions on the numbers of characters a member may have in the guild.
Guild Ranks
General Membership
Pleb
After having a membership application approved and reaching level 10, a member is invited and joins as a Pleb. This is a probationary rank with limited privileges. During this time, the Pleb is expected to become familiar with the guild polices and to register in the official guild forums. Within two (2) to twelve (12) weeks of joining, the Pleb’s member ship status will be reviewed and the member will be either promoted to Cohort or removed from the guild.
Cohort
Cohort is the highest non-officer rank in AIE. A Cohort is considered a member in good standing and carries with it the full privilege and responsibility of AIE membership.
Certiorari
Certiorari (lit. to be ascertained) is a rank that has no ability to speak in guild chat. This rank is used in the rare situation that a member is causing a problem that requires restriction but does not warrant an immediate removal from the guild.
Officer Corps
Centurion
Centurions assist with bringing in new members and resolving conflicts. The Centurion rank had its origins in PvP and the Centurion Code, but has since been expanded to become a junior officer rank and perform a mentoring function within the guild.
Centurions are only selected through nomination by current Centurions or other officers. The Centurion rank is not the result of general member progression or solicitation by members.
To promote a guild member to the rank of Centurion, the existing Centurions follow this process.
1. One Centurion nominates the candidate.
2. Another Centurion seconds the nomination.
3. Voting commences and lasts for a one week period.
All Centurions and other guild officers in good standing may vote. Quorum is 50% of the Centurion population (rounding down if the population is an odd number). Once quorum is met, a candidate must get a majority of “yea” votes. An abstention counts towards quorum but is not counted as a vote.
4. If the candidate is accepted by vote, a recommendation is sent to the Caesar, Imperators, and Praetorians recommending the candidate for promotion.
The vote is only a means to achieve consensus among the Centurions. The upper-tier officers make the final decision about all promotions, and may promote a member at any time.
Praetorian
Praetorians have the same responsibilities as Centurions, but are also responsible for executing Centurion promotions, handling escalations of guild policy issues, and managing guild resources.
Imperator
This rank consists of guild founders.
Caesar
Our leader prefers warm sweet milk for his baths.
Guild Bank Policy
All guild members can donate gold to the guild bank.
- Plebs cannot withdraw from the guild bank. They can request items from those of Officer rank only (Centurions, Praetorians, Imperator). It is not ok to obtain items from the guild bank from a non-officer guild member.
- Cohorts can deposit and withdraw from the first and second tabs. Withdrawals are limited to five per day.
- Centurions can deposit into all guild bank tabs, and may withdraw from the first three tabs.
- Praetorians and higher can deposit into all guild bank tabs, and may withdraw from all tabs.
This means our most valuable items will be on the 4th and 5th tabs and may not be immediately accessible if our highest level officers are not online. These items can be requested via in-game emails or tells to an officer or via officers@aie-guild.org.
We ask that people consider the value of the item they are depositing, since the number of slots is extremely limited, especially for a guild of our size. Each slot costs close to 16g. Don't fill up slots with low level crafted items, or easily purchaseable recipes.
Materials and items taken from the bank are to be used to benefit the guild and not for personal profit. It is expected that armor and weapons withdrawn from the guild bank by cohorts will be equipped for use by that character. Withdrawing items to sell on the Auction House or to transfer to another character will be considered theft from the guild and grounds for an immediate gkick. If you want to withdraw something for your alt which is also in AIE, please do so while logged in as that alt.
Enchanting or crafting supplies from the guild bank should also be used for the benefit of the guild. Crafting or enchanting something for yourself or a guild member? Fine. Crafting or enchanting something for a non-guild member, charging someone for the enchant, or selling the crafting item? Not okay. That is using items from the guild bank for personal profit.
Periodically, an officer appointed to this task will go through the weapons and armor in the guild bank and disenchant the items which have been taking up inventory space for a considerable period of time. Those enchanting mats will be redeposited in the guild bank or used for events like the Craft Fair. As such, withdrawing items specifically to disenchant for mats is not allowed, regardless of the intended use of the mats.
Please be aware that guild bank deposit and withdrawal logs are examined frequently by officers.
Role Playing
Roleplaying is appreciated and encouraged, but not a requirement. Guild policies apply to both in-character (IC) and out-of-character (OOC) activities.
In guild chat, it is recommended that you make it clear whether your comments are IC or OOC. This can be done with quotes, parenthesis, or leading slashes to indicate IC comments. Unless it is clear that a comment is IC, it is assumed to be OOC.
Raiding
Alea Iacta Est is by no means a “Raiding Guild”. Raiding here will be done on a friendly and amicable basis, and those that raid do not have any preferential status over those that concentrate on other in game pursuits.
The guild does not officially organize or designate raid teams or leaders so if you wish to participate in raids please contact those members who have taken it upon themselves to organize teams or form a team yourself. Remember that you are still expected to treat every member in your raid group with respect and to conduct yourself in a civil manner.
PvP
Like raiding, we are not a hardcore PvP guild. Most members of AIE PvP in small, impromptu groups. However, some members have formed arena teams and organized battleground groups. Occasionally, as a guild, we coordinate World PvP events as well as PvP Initiation events in order to jump-start PvP among those who may have not experienced it yet. You may PvP as you wish, whether it be casual or hardcore.
