Overview

The Ars Brute Squad is a Horde guild on the U.S. server Chromaggus US. Guild members are from the Ars Technica forums, in particular from the GESC forum, and from Arsclan.

History

Arsians were spread out over many of the World of Warcraft servers playing both the Alliance and the Horde. In 2006, Blizzard announced that they were going to allow fee-based character transfers from one server to another. On the mega WoW thread, people started talking about transfering characters to a single server to create a super Ars guild. Eventually it was decided that the new guild would be on the Horde side. Now a decision needed to be made on the server. Some people wanted to transfer to a brand new server. Others wanted to be on a more established server. Soon the Chromaggus server became the favorite. It was a relatively new server (opened in November 2005) which already had an Ars guild called the Hand of Ohrmazd there. The HoO had a small group of players that played consistantly with several characters at or near 60. After talk about keeping the new guild and the HoO separate, everyone decided that it would be best to fold the HoO into the new guild. The last thing to decide would be the name of the guild. Some of the suggestions were:

  • Smack-Fu Masters
  • Fist Of Ormahzd
  • Ormahzd's Other Hand
  • We Know Drama(tm)
  • Prepetual
  • Pretentious Latin Name

One name rose to the top and the Ars Brute Squad was born in July 2006.

Status

The Brutes currently have over 160 unique accounts in the guild, many with numerous alts.

Before The Burning Crusade was released, Ars Brute Squad progressed well through 20-man raid content. They downed every boss in Zul'Gurub except for Jin'do the Hexxer and most of Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj, with Ayamiss the Hunter and Ossirian the Unscarred remaining undefeated.

40-man raid content proved a bit more challenging, largely in part to a lack of numbers needed to completely fill the raid. Despite that handicap, the Brutes progressed through [[Molten Core], up to Baron Geddon.

At that point, many brutes began to focus on PvP content and preparing to venture to Outland.

The Burning Crusade's raiding structure fits the guild much better than previous raiding content. The Brutes have achieved clears of Karazhan with three groups in the same week, with their quickest run just over 3 hours. Gruul's Lair is on farm status. In March 2008 Serpentshrine Cavern became the primary raid instance with The Lurker Below as the first boss kill. High Astromancer Solarian and Void Reaver in The Eye are both on farm status as well.

Recruitment

Ars Brute Squad has no open recruitment. Membership is restricted to established members of the Ars Technica and Arsclan forums. If you are an Ars Technica or Arsclan forum member, create a Horde character on Chromaggus, join the Ars channel ("/join ars"), and ask for an invite and provide your Ars forum name. Members do have the option of sponsoring close friends and family into the guild, as long as they are willing to vouch for the potential member's character and assume responsibility for their actions.
