Attrition is an end game raiding guild originally from the Hellscream server who transferred to the Staghelm server. They ran an AQ raffle contest for the war effort, and assembled the servers scepter.

Server:Staghelm US

The Beginning

Attrition rose from the ashes of a Guild once known as Return to Honor. Return to Honor was formed originally by a man named Aldrek who was discontent with the way his old guild, Forgotten Legacy, was managed. January of 2005, Return to Honor was born, and within 2 months, they were prepped to begin the endgame. Some members of RTH began raiding with a guild named Brainstorm into the core, and managed to kill Lucifron before Brainstorm collapsed on itself, to be absorbed into Forgotten Legacy and Keepers of the Faith. Return to Honor began raiding Molten Core, and within a month, every boss with the exception of Ragnaros 1.0 had fallen. Through the coming weeks, it became obvious what the problem with a casual mindset was. Members did not care to put in time or effort on a boss that was of significant difficulty, and attendance falters. Aldrek even had stepped out, leaving for the summer, abruptly dumping the guild leadership to the officers, but never picking someone to replace him temporarily as the Guild Master. His arrogance was to be his downfall, and through the following days and weeks, certain members became unruley and impossible to manage, further adding to the overall storm that was brewing.

Finally, it ended.

Return to Honor disbanded, leaving the seeds of disaster behind, and reformed into Attrition, with Goborchend (Nerfus now) leading the way. The guild was reborn on a more serious mindset with goals and based on dedication. Things appeared to be going well, and then the first of many rough spots hit.

The Abrupt Nerf

Goborchend hinted at quitting to the Officers one morning after a particularly stressful raid the night prior. Fallout ensued. Kintik left for Forgotten Legacy, Demlou left for Keepers of the Faith, Goborchend left completely, dropping the leadership in the hands of Varkas, Alpha and Slacker.

The Slacker Era

Slacker stepped up and lead the guild through the remaining portions of MC, preparing for the arrival of Blackwing Lair. As with the arrival of any new encounter, attendance took a step back and the guild was forced to rebuild while pushing through content. Razorgore fell, then Vael, and then the guild took a step back. Slacker had lead Attrition for a short 2-3 months, and his time had come and gone. He left suddenly, leaving only one to fill the void.

The Rise of Attrition

Alpha took the reigns and pushed new policy into the guild, and fixed several of the issues Slacker had left lingering. Recruitment based on willingness to join and avoiding sniping completely was implemented. After policy had changed, the guild went through a revitalization, tearing through Blackwing Lair and awaiting at Nefarian's door. Preparing for the future of Azeroth, Alpha lead the guild into learning the Emerald Dragons and conquering them, falling behind on any progress on Nefarian. Three of the four Dragons had fallen to Attrition before Nefarian had, which many saw as a mismanagement of time, but the fruits of labor were evident, and progress was made toward gearing for the oncoming War that was about to be waged.

Hellscream was a very bad place for Attrition, mainly due to the queues every night and problems raiding due to it. The prayers were answered when Hellscream to Staghelm transfers opened. Many saw it as a way to be able to raid stable, and some saw it as Attrition leaving the stiff competition on Hellscream behind. Whatever the reason may have been, the guild debated on transferring and came to the decision to make the move. The move was not without loss as some people did decide to stay with their friends, but the majority of the guild made the move. Some of the enemies from Hellscream made the transfer an inconvenience, tagging names of the members, forcing them to change upon moving over. Regardless of their actions, Attrition left Hellscream behind and built a new home on Staghelm.

Within a week of transferring, Attrition had the fastest ripping of Blackwing Lair they had ever had and put down the black Dragon. Nefarian. And then came the preparations for Ahn'Qiraj.

Passing on the Legacy

Through the seven months of Alpha leading the guild, the stress and wear it placed on him became apparent. He realized it as well, and passed on the title to a capable man named Rohir. Hoping to find some peace from the stress, Alpha retained an officer position and slowly faded from the forefront while Rohir stepped into the fray. His policy echoed much of what Alpha's did, with his own twist, and through his policies and preparation, Ahn'Qiraj fell before Attrition's surging offensive, leaving very little left to learn. With any great offensive, there comes a resuppling period, and Attrition had needed one of those. Rebuilding the supply lines and strengthening their tactics, they pushed on through Ahn'Qiraj and stand poised to remove the final bosses from their comfortable residences within the hallowed chambers of the Temple.
