Guild:Maelstrom (Executus US)
From WoWWiki
Introduction
<Maelstrom> is a Horde guild on US Executus server. Our aim is hardcore raiding although we do not have the usual cold and insipid atmosphere of traditional hardcore raiding guilds. We all play the game to progress but in the end, we just want to have fun. The guild is reletively new compared to some of the older guilds on the server, but already we are among the top 10 (#6-8, depending on the source). Our warm, playful atmosphere is not taxing to our raiding success and we find although some guilds might progress faster than us, they probably have half as much fun and that's what matters to us. New raid instances are added all the time, new content comes and goes... but our friendships, they last a lifetime.
History
<Maelstrom> was founded by Nathon, 70 Orc warrior, and started as a spinoff from the guild <Pulse>. Nathon had been a GM of several end-game raiding guilds since the dawn the World of Warcraft, and after making many characters he settled on Executus, got accepted into the excellent guild <Tindi Losi> and raided Naxx for some time with them. He quit the game for some time due to college although he returned around four months later (now Post-BC) and created his own guild with his old friends called <Hostile>. Hostile was mostly a casual, leveling guild at first. It was around for more than half a year when some of the senior members started growing tired of waiting for some of the slower levelers to hit 70 so the officers and serious raiders made an agreement with a newly formed guild on the server who had seen success in Karazhan early on. This guild was called <Reverie>, and Nathon was and officer and quickly became one of the main tanks. Progression was pretty solid in the beginning started slowing down towards the end. Some of the officers grew impatient - as soon as they didn't need anything from Kara or Gruuls they had little desire to raid and help out. A few even mentioned quitting and joining other guilds. This, combined with the fact that the GM leadership was weak and some fabricated story about being "hacked", caused the guild to collapse. The person who "hacked" the GM's account disbanded the guild, and although it was remade, none of the officers wanted to stay to lend a hand except Nathon. A lot of good members didn't even want to re-join the reformed Reverie. So shortly after some of the officers transferred off the server to an SSC guild (which apparently broke up days after they got in the guild) and the rest went to Semper Tyrannis.
Shortly thereafter, a person named Sugar whispered Nathon and asked for help leading a guild, trying to get back some members of Reverie and recruiting others to make a better guild. Nathon agreed on two conditions: 1) that he would be the Main Tank, and 2) that the leadership would always exist as a Council. That is, the officers and GM would always have equal say in matters. Sugar offered Nathon the actual GM position, but he declined, saying it didn't really matter as long as the pact was held. The guild grew fairly rapidly and although we had much of the same success as Reverie in Karazhan, Nathon wasn't in the guild long enough to see how far that success would go in 25 mans. Sugar, in one of her PMS mood-swings, decided to demote Nathon to "Trial" rank because apparently they "disagreed" too much. Apparently she mistook the concept of Council for "group of yes-men". She thought she was the best GM ever simply because she was in DaKor, as if DaKor was some GM-pumping machine. She was at best uninformed, at worst living in a pernicious delusion of granduer. In the end, her decision cost her because her guild died.
But before Pulse died, right after she demoted Nathon, he addressed the guild and left. Originally, he was simply going to apply to one of the older, more stable guilds such as Ropetown or DaKor, but as soon as he left, several of his friends did as well and compelled him to make a guild where they would all be accepted. And thus we formed Maelstrom.
As of 12/12/07, <Pulse> is dead and <Reverie> reformed by its old GM (but very few original members have returned, so it's essentially a new guild entirely).
