Were you seeking information about Hellfire Peninsula, the first zone you will step in when entering Outland?

Overview

Spell fire incinerate

Hellfire is an PBAoE spell during which pulses of fire radiate out each second from the caster, causing damage to enemies within range and the caster himself. This spell is a channeling spell, so interruptions can shorten the duration and thus the damage output.

Functionality

Rank Level Type Mana Cost Description Cost
1 30 Destruction 639 Ignites the area around the warlock, causing 83 Fire damage to himself, and 83 Fire damage per second to surrounding enemies. Lasts 15 seconds. 60s
2 42 Destruction 965 Ignites the area around the warlock, causing 139 Fire damage to himself, and 139 Fire damage per second to surrounding enemies. Lasts 15 seconds. 2g 20s
3 54 Destruction 1287 Ignites the area around the warlock, causing 208 Fire damage to himself, and 208 Fire damage per second to surrounding enemies. Lasts 15 seconds. 4g 40s

Notes

Taking the Inv staff 95 [Intensity] talent reduces the chance of interruption during this spell. Warlocks can combine Inv staff 95 [Intensity] with Spell holy mindsooth [Concentration Aura] to make Hellfire uninterruptible.

Warlocks are unable to resist the damage that Hellfire does to themselves unless they use the Sacrifice ability of the Voidwalker, then the shield will take the damage until the shield fails or the effect is interrupted by moving.

This is a great spell to use with an experienced healer, if you're not being focused on, and in large groups of enemies. Once started you deal out tremendous damage but also receive as much. Compared to other AOE, Hellfire is incredibly mana efficient, not taking into account the mana needed to heal. A popular combo is warlock/priest since Spell holy powerwordshield [Power Word: Shield] minimizes channeling time lost, and if combined with Spell holy holynova [Holy Nova], mobs die fast and the warlock is never in danger of dying.

It can also be used to a certain extent in some encounters to AoE tank, provided the warlock does have Inv staff 95 [Intensity] and a Palladin with Spell holy mindsooth [Concentration Aura], however they do require more healing than a Paladin in general.

If the warlock dies from this spell's effect, they take no durability damage.

Hellfire receives very little benefit from +damage gear. As an AoE spell, it receives only 33% of +damage gear. This effect is further divided amongst all 15 ticks of Hellfire. This means that if you have +100 spell damage, each tick receives only +2.2 damage ((100*0.33) / 15). (By comparison, each cast of Spell nature wispsplode [Arcane Explosion] receives +14.3 damage - or 9.5 damage per second.)
