Help:CategorySelect

From WoWWiki

CategorySelect is a new feature add inline to WoWWiki that makes it much simpler to add and edit categories from the edit page, whilst also making it possible to add new categories without ever visiting the edit page.

When browsing, a small "Add category" button (Image:CategorySelect Add category.png) will appear under category links at the bottom of the page allowing the user to add the page to categories without having to load the full page/section editor.

In edit mode, in a box below the edit area, categories will appear as small buttons with "Add category" button after them and a "Code view" link to the far right.

  • Each category button (Image:CategorySelect existing category.png) will have an edit ("⇄") and delete ("×") icon.
  • The "Code view" link will change the category box to an traditional edit box with categories in wikicode for old-style editing.

How to use it

From article pages

At the end of the article, you can now add a category without going into full edit mode. At this time, to delete or edit categories you must go into full edit mode.

From edit pages

At the end of the edit box is a separate section for adding and editing categories. You click "Add category" and just type in the name of the category you want and press enter. As you type the name of a category, suggestions will appear with any currently existing categories match your input.

After you have entered one category, you add type another, or click away from the entry box to do something else.

Note: Categories will not show in the wikitext. The extension moves all categories to the page end, from any point within the article, including any within special tags (e.g. noinclude) - the surrounding tags are preserved.

Advanced functions

There are a couple of advanced functions available:

  • Sort parameters - by clicking the arrows next to the category names, you can define a sortkey for that category. This sortkey defines at what point the article appears in a category page's listings.
  • Code view - allows you to directly edit the wikitext of categories. Note, you cannot directly return to "visual" mode after entering code view - however, clicking preview will restore the visual mode.

Disabling CategorySelect

If you would prefer not to use CategorySelect, you can disable it by going to your personal preferences, clicking on the Editing tab, checking the box next to "Disable Category Tagging" and then saving your preferences.

If the entire community at the wiki would like it disabled, please contact Wikia Staff to discuss having it disabled.

Note: If the wiki has the new Rich text editor (aka WYSIWYG) enabled, CategorySelect cannot be disabled.
