The namespace "Special:" consists of "special pages". These have no corresponding wikitext; they are created by the software on demand. Some depend on the preferences that have been set, e.g. classic or enhanced Recent Changes, and the number of titles in Recent Changes and the watchlist, etc.

Example of alphabetic list as a special page

In the case of alphabetic lists of pages, ASCII order is used. In particular, a-z come after A-Z. The blank space within a page name is treated as an underscore, and therefore comes after the capitals, and before the lower case letters. However, a "blank space" after the name comes before any character. Sometimes a special character looks like a regular letter, but has a special code anyway.

Thus we have the order PC, PCX, PC Bruno, PCjr, Κ�?�?ια Σελίδα.

For the allowed characters in the lower range the order is:

Other special characters come at the end.

Special:LonelyPages : Articles with no links to them in the wiki, otherwise known as orphaned articles.

Uncategorized pages 

Special:Uncategorizedpages : Pages without category tags (note that after adding a tag to a page refreshing this page does not immediately reflects the change)

Wanted pages 

Special:WantedPages : Links to uncreated pages by rank.

Fewest revisions 

Special:FewestRevisions : Pages with low revision counts in order of least revisions

Short pages 

Special:ShortPages - pages in the main namespace, with size (of the wikitext excluding that of templates used) in bytes, in order of increasing size

Long pages 

Special:LongPages - pages in the main namespace, with size in bytes, in order of decreasing size

Special:WithoutInterwiki : Pages without language links

New pages 

Special:NewPages : new pages in the main namespace - newest pages in the main namespace, with creation date and time, current size, user who created the page, and first edit summary, in reverse order of creation

Oldest pages 

Special:AncientPages - pages in the main namespace, with creation date and time, in order of creation

Dead-end pages 

Special:DeadendPages : Pages without any outgoing links

Broken redirects 

Special:BrokenRedirects : Redirects that link to non-existent pages

Double redirects 

Special:DoubleRedirects : Pages which redirect to other redirect pages

Special:Disambiguations ; List of pages that link to {{disambig}} pages and the disambig pages they link to

Export pages 

Special:Export : Exports the source of individual wiki pages, optionally with their histories, in a thin XML wrapper which includes metadata (time, etc).

Restricted special pages

Multiple file upload 

Special:MultipleUpload : Sysop only. Upload up to 10 files at once. Doesn't allow categories or templates in summary field.

Block user 

Special:Block, Special:Blockip : Sysop only. Used to block or unblock users, IPs and ranges of IPs.

Deleted user contributions 

Special:DeletedContributions : Show deleted user contributions based on IP or username by namespace.

View or restore deleted pages 

Special:Undelete : Sysop only. One way to undelete a page.

User rights management 

Special:UserRights : Sysop or Bureaucrat only. Demote/promote users or add them to different groups.

Import pages 

Special:Import : Sysop only. Import pages as XML data (best to use Special:Export to generate data).

Lock database 

Special:Lockdb : Developer only. Puts the wiki in read only mode.

Unlock database 

Special:Unlockdb : Developer only. Puts the wiki in read/write mode.

Sysop maintenance special pages

All system messages 

Special:Allmessages : Displays all pages in the MediaWiki namespace. Editing these pages is restricted and will affect wiki UI.

Duplicate file search

Miscellaneous

Special pages can be linked to as usual, like [[Special:Recentchanges]], and when they have parameters, the parameters follow after a backslash after the name, for example Special:RecentChanges/days=3,limit=10 (last 10 changes).

"Special:" in URLs is e.g. "Speciaal" in Dutch, "Spezial" in German, "Speciális:" in Hungarian and "מיוחד:" in Hebrew. See e.g the prefix of "Recentchanges" in the URL of the link to the Recent changes.

Also, some special pages appear on the sidebar because they act differently depending on what page they target for an action.

What sidebar special pages specific to current page do

• What links here – Shows what other wiki pages link to the page you're on (links to this page have been added to various spots in the wiki, so you can see it at work).
• Related changes – Shows recent changes to wiki pages that link from the page you're on (these links only exist to see how this special page works: Category talk:Game terms, Rumored Expansions).
