Notes
Hex is one of the two new abilities given to shamans in the second expansion, and was one of the abilities of the Shadow Hunter in Warcraft III. As this is the same hero unit that originally had Chain Heal and an equivalent of Searing Totem, Hex has been one of the most suggested shaman abilities since release, along with Feral Spirit and Bloodlust.
The spell is a curse, so only druids, mages, and shamans can remove it. It is considered a polymorph effect, and as such can be shapeshifted out of by druids. Unlike the spell Polymorph, however, it is not guaranteed to break instantly on damage. This means a 'hexed' mob can usually afford to take an accidental hit or stay crowd controlled during area of effect spells. Also, hexed mobs do not have a greatly increased health regeneration like Polymorphed targets do.
Patch changes
-
Patch 4.2.0 (28-Jun-2011): Hex no longer causes creatures to attack players when it is cast. The creature will not attack the player when the crowd control wears off, and nearby creatures will not become hostile to the player either. However, if a visible player gets too close to the target creature, the creature will remember and attack the player when the crowd control effect wears off. The intent is to make it easier for dungeon groups to manage crowd control assignments and pulling packs of hostile NPCs.
-
Patch 4.0.6 (8-Feb-2011): Hex now has a PvP duration of 8 seconds.
-
Patch 3.3.3 (2010-03-23): The hunter ability Deterrence can no longer be used while Hexed.
-
Patch 3.3.0 (08-Dec-2009): Players are no longer able to use Battlemaster trinkets while under the effects of this spell.
-
