So, you've chosen to take a step into this dangerous field of RP don't you?
There's a very tenuous line between success and failure when roleplaying a Darkfallen, but this guide has for objective helping you to take your first step into this realm of darkness and hopefully grant you success in this increasingly popular character.
This guide will give you the base which you can use to build your character upon, it is designed mostly for the Darkfallen, if you want to play any other kind of vampire, you're probably twisting the lore and will have a far greater risk of being taken as a bad Ropleplayer by others.

The Darkfallen are a new breed of undead created by the scourge to serve as commanders to various operations around the world of Azeroth, mostly in Northrend.
They have their own sub-faction called The San'layn
Those were Elves in life and now serve the Lich King in death, it is speculated that they were Princes or Nobles who betrayed their own people during the scourge invasion, or just powerful blood elves fallen in combat.
The basics, origins and appearance
Darkfallen were elves in life, so, it's only natural that they are elves in death. In game they are based on the Night Elf model, but as they are essentially Blood Elves, those are acceptable as well.
They are undeads, which make Death Knight the class of choice, although Warlocks or Shadow Priests wouldn't be a bad choice as long as you remember that they are... Undeads.
As blood elves they wear red, the best item to begin your RP gear is a Blood Elf bandit mask. The rest is anything that matches. Of course you can pick up any color depending of what you're playing(Maybe you're a Night elf darkfallen), but is advised to always use some kind of mask, even out of World of warcraft universe, Vampires always cover their mouth for obvious reasons.
GHI is a good add-on that as a Roleplayer, you probably have already. It is useful because of buffs that can describe your appearance and is faster to notice than the normal RSP profile.
Behavior and nature
The darkfallen are vampiric in nature, that is what attracts people the most and probably the reason why you want to play as one. They like raw meat and blood, but nothing in the lore indicates that they need it to live, it's just 'Fine cuisine'
They take pleasure in suffering, death and bloodshed, but if you're playing a freed San'layn, you may also suffer from guilt and other things that usually affect a death Knight, or not.
They are usually prideful and calm, dedicated and concentrated, although those are the normal traits,that can be changed slightly to better fit your character.
It doesn't appear that they got any kind of weakness to the sun, especially because such weakness would amke them less useful to the scourge. But the old excuses like sensitive skin because of undeath or even eyes that are sensitive to bright lights are a good way to deal with it. Sensitive eyes would also add some limitations for them when it comes to the holy light. As undeads they are weak to holy powers, places and objects, but their physical resistance is better than that of a mortal.
Final Details
They usually speak some Thalassian, but if you're roleplaying a night elf, you can speak Darnassian as well. Not the in game translations, but some random expressions for greetings, farewell, surprised or angered.
They are usually more active during the night time or hiding in dark places.
Their powers include physical strength and resistance, strong mental power with some influence over weak mortal minds(Especially humans and orcs/trolls)
They are very literated, with vast knowledge in mane fields, showing wisdom and a cunning mind.
If done right, you can transform even the most skeptical players who usually tend to look at those exotic characters with bad eyes.
A Darkfallen is a really interesting character to play, it's a challenge to be accepted by players and even other chars alike, but they are also very popular as well, making great success especially with girls.
