Hunter's Mark is a hunter ability that visibly marks a target, increasing the ranged attack power of all attacks made against the target. It is somewhat unique in that it has an extremely long range and can be cast on an enemy without putting you into combat with the target. This allows you to cast Hunter's Mark on a target before engaging it, saving you a global cooldown later in the fight. Hunter's Mark also causes the target to appear on your mini-map and to remain visible to you and your party even if it uses stealth or invisibility. Note that the target is not prevented from using stealth; it merely remains visible to you even if it does.

Notes Edit

  • The ranged attack power bonus applies to everyone attacking the target, most notably other hunters. A target may only be affected by one Hunter's Mark, and the ability does not stack if cast by multiple hunters.
  • The duration of Hunter's Mark is significantly reduced in PvP. The effect can also be dispelled by priests and paladins.

Tips and tactics Edit

  • The Hunter's Mark should be used before pulling a mob, if possible.
  • Use this on mobs that can stealth so you and your pet can target them when they try to disappear.
  • Using Hunter's Mark in PvP will alert the targeted player to your presence, which may or may not be advisable. It should not be used if you think the enemy has not seen you yet, as it will let them know you have them targeted. This can be used to your advantage, however, by making an enemy think that you are targeting them while you are actually shooting at their ally.
  • Hunter's Mark can be used in PvP to scare other players into avoiding you. The mark will let them know that you have seen them and that you are ready to fight, even though you may in fact be outnumbered or otherwise at a disadvantage. Since you appear to be ready to fight them, the enemy may assume that you have (possibly stealthed) allies nearby that they have not seen yet. This tactic can be especially useful when defending a position, such as a flag in Arathi Basin or a graveyard or tower in Alterac Valley.

Patch changes Edit

  • WotLK Patch 3.1.3 (2009-06-02): The ranged attack power bonus from this ability has been increased from 300 to 500.

            Applies to rank 5.
