Pet specializations encompass three distinct and separate roles that hunters can choose for their pets. While all pets are assigned a specific specialization according to their pet family, the hunter can choose to change that specialization if/when needed. Like the hunter, a pet can have more than one specialization thanks to Dual Talent Specialization.

Note that the abilities listed below are the base abilities assigned to that specialization; pet families have additional abilities.

Cunning
Cunning (Utility)
Icon Ability
Ability hunter pet boar [Boar's Speed]
Ability warrior bullrush [Bullheaded]
Ability hunter survivalinstincts [Cornered]
Ability druid dash [Dash]
Ability hunter fervor [Roar of Sacrifice]

The specialization gives burst, stun, and crowd-control abilities, all useful in PvP.

While any pet family can be re-specced into Cunning, these abilities are naturally part of the following pet family types: Bat, Birds of prey, Chimera, Mists-Logo-Small Crane, Bc icon Dragonhawk, Cataclysm-Logo-Small Monkey, Bc icon Nether Ray, Bc icon Ravager, Serpent, Silithid, Spider, Bc icon Sporebat, Mists-Logo-Small Water strider, Wind Serpent.

Ferocity
Ferocity (DPS)
Icon Ability
Ability druid dash [Dash]
Inv misc pheonixpet 01 [Heart of the Phoenix]
Inv jewelry necklace 22 [Spiked Collar]

The specialization is designed for boosting PvE DPS.

While any pet family can be re-specced into Ferocity, these abilities are naturally part of the following pet family types: Carrion Bird, Cat, Core Hound, Devilsaur, Cataclysm-Logo-Small Dog, Cataclysm-Logo-Small Fox, Mists-Logo-Small Goat, Hyena, Moth, Mists-Logo-Small Quilen, Raptor, Wrath-Logo-Small Spirit Beast, Tallstrider, Wasp, Wolf.

Tenacity
Tenacity (Tanking)
Icon Ability
Spell shadow lifedrain [Blood of the Rhino]
Ability hunter pet bear [Charge]
Spell nature unyeildingstamina [Great Stamina]
Spell nature shamanrage [Last Stand]
Ability golemthunderclap [Thunderstomp]

The specialization is designed for boosting tanking ability, either for soloing or for gimmick group-tanking.

While any pet family can be re-specced into Tenacity, these abilities are naturally part of the following pet family types: Mists-Logo-Small Basilisk, Bear, Cataclysm-Logo-Small Beetle, Boar, Crab, Crocolisk, Gorilla, Mists-Logo-Small Porcupine, Wrath-Logo-Small Rhino, Scorpid, Cataclysm-Logo-Small Shale spider, Turtle, Bc icon Warp Stalker, Worm.
