Pet specializations encompass three distinct and separate roles that hunters can choose for their pets. While all pets are assigned a specific specialization according to their pet family, the hunter can choose to change that specialization if/when needed. Like the hunter, a pet can have more than one specialization thanks to Dual Talent Specialization.
Note that the abilities listed below are the base abilities assigned to that specialization; pet families have additional abilities.
The specialization gives burst, stun, and crowd-control abilities, all useful in PvP.
While any pet family can be re-specced into Cunning, these abilities are naturally part of the following pet family types: Bat, Birds of prey, Chimera, Crane, Dragonhawk, Monkey, Nether Ray, Ravager, Serpent, Silithid, Spider, Sporebat, Water strider, Wind Serpent.
The specialization is designed for boosting PvE DPS.
While any pet family can be re-specced into Ferocity, these abilities are naturally part of the following pet family types: Carrion Bird, Cat, Core Hound, Devilsaur, Dog, Fox, Goat, Hyena, Moth, Quilen, Raptor, Spirit Beast, Tallstrider, Wasp, Wolf.
The specialization is designed for boosting tanking ability, either for soloing or for gimmick group-tanking.
While any pet family can be re-specced into Tenacity, these abilities are naturally part of the following pet family types: Bear, Boar, Crab, Crocolisk, Gorilla, Rhino, Scorpid, Turtle, Warp Stalker, Worm.
- Patch 5.0.4 (28 August 2012): Specializations added.
