Hunter twinking guide

From WoWWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

You decided to make a level 19 Hunter WSG twink? It won't be easy, or enjoyable, until you character is Battleground-ready. It will take a lot of well planned time and/or a big hand from one or more helpful higher levels, not to mention quite some resources from your other characters or from an Auction House.

Choosing your race

If you don't care much about the looks of your new character, you might want to consult the table below to maximize the potential of your twink. The main attribute is Agility although some players prefer a higher Stamina base stat.

Alliance Hunters choosing Agility end up with a Night elf, while choosing for Stamina will lead to a Dwarf.

Horde Hunters choosing Agility end up with a Troll, while choosing for Stamina will lead to a Tauren.

  • This table shows the starting stats of all playable hunter-races
Race Strength Agility Stamina Intellect Spirit Armor Health Mana
Dwarf 22 19 24 19 20 38 86 84
Night elf 17 28 20 20 21 56 46 85
Draenei World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade 21 20 20 21 23 40 46 100
Orc 23 20 23 17 24 40 76 82
Tauren 25 18 23 15 23 36 80 80
Troll 21 25 22 16 22 50 66 81
Blood elf World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade 17 25 19 24 20 50 45 145

Equipment

A 'short' summary of the most applicable items for a Hunter twink. Some options (such as [Blood Elf Bandit Mask]) were not included as they are clearly the last resort. Also note that the order in which these items appear, is important; the top items are the best. They might not be best in absolute numbers, but are less time consuming or cheaper to acquire. To make the choice somewhat easier, I have included the drop percentages for certain items as provided by Image:Icon-wowhead-22x22.pngWowhead.

Enhancements

Useful Buffs

Talent Builds

Build favored by many for obvious reasons. It offers additional Health, a 5% increase in ranged critical, and a 3% increase in damage versus humanoids (resulting in 6% when striking a critical). Since everything in WSG is considered humanoid (except for shapeshifted druids), this build provides a genuine advantage.

Weird talent build I found, used by people who strangely prefer to melee with their Hunter twink.

Straigth forward build, focusing on stunning an opponent, and using and increased crit chance as well as a tank pet to singlehandedly taking down any opponent in the battleground.

Pets

Regardless whatever pet you may favor or end up choosing, they all can learn Great Stamina rank 3 and Natural Armor rank 3, providing you train them up to level 18.

Tank Pet

Boar : Favored, due to it’s increased Armor and HP, as well as it’s unique skill Charge. Make sure your Boar has the following skills :

Note : This is the most obvious choice due to it’s tank capacities. Even if your hunter dies, your pet will most likely survive. This means you don’t have to spend mana or time summoning when you resurrect.

DPS Pet

These pets have an increased damage characteristic, and where mentioned a lower HP and/or Armor.
Wind Serpent : Can learn Bite rank 3 and Lightning Breath rank 2.
Cat : Can learn Bite rank 3 and Claw rank 3. Has lowered HP.
Raptor : Can learn Bite rank 3 and Claw rank 3. Has lowered HP, but increased Armor.
Ravager : Can learn Bite rank 3 and Gore rank 3. Has lowered HP, but increased Armor.

Allround Pet

These pets have no distinctive characteristic, but are worth using, due to their unique ability.
Dragonhawk : Can learn Bite rank 3 and Fire Breath rank 1.
Serpent : Can learn Bite rank 3 and Poison Spit rank 1.

Personal Advice

  • You can certainly use a level 60-70 friend :
    • when entering instances or doing quests. (This will significantly reduce the amount of experience you gain, and it should result in a lower death toll)
    • to get the leg armor on your pants, or put the lesser arcanum on your headgear (if not BoP, you can do it with your own high level character)
  • Always Log Out or Exit outside a City or Inn. This will lower the amount of rested xp your character accumulates, thus giving you more time to get your character properly twinked.
  • Be nice to others. Don't go spamming claiming to be a twink, it's not amusing to other players, and it doesn't prove you know how to play (a twink).
  • Updates are coming very soon; including useful battleground-macros, etc...
