Acquiring an Infernal
Warlock players in World of Warcraft may learn a skill called Inferno. The skill calls forth an infernal to the warlock's aid for 5 minutes. The ability is available to the Warlocks at level 50 after completing a quest line from Niby the Almighty in Felwood, where the warlock must defeat Kroshius to obtain his Infernal Core. Warlocks may also learn the ability from reading [Grimoire of Inferno], which drops off Scarshield Warlock in Blackrock Spire.
Casting the spell consumes an Infernal Stone (purchasable at reagent vendors for 50
each) and creates an Infernal under initial control of the Warlock. The infernal can only be summoned outdoors.
The Infernal will remain under his command for five minutes. After which, the warlock must use Enslave Demon to keep control, but the spell has an erratic (and successively diminishing) duration and the Warlock may lose control.
The Infernal can tank multiple mobs better than a Voidwalker. Aside from the quite respectable melee damage it does, it also has a fire aura that will damage all units within melee range that aren't outright immune to fire. However, Infernals do not have a taunt ability, so if you do pull aggro they are generally incapable of re-acquiring the attention of a mob. Because they can potentially break their enslave at any moment, it is reccommended they only be used for grinding.
Infernal Minion Tips
- Remember to cast Curse of Shadow on your Infernal before enslaving it, this will greatly increase the time you can keep him under control.
- If you Banish the Infernal a few times when it breaks free, this seems to allow you to control it longer on a re-enslave.
- This is useful in Alterac Valley. Simply summon it and let it loose. Many people overestimate the infernal and will back off. This may buy some time for your own faction — unless they have a warlock who knows what they are doing and simply banish it.
- Infernals, true to their nature of short life spans, will despawn after 30 minutes have passed. Towards the end of this 30 minute lifespan, Enslave will begin to either fail or break early much more often. Because of this hassle, it's suggested that you either release the Infernal somewhere safe or let it die.
- Some people will go to a city controlled by another faction when the Infernal is about to break loose. This causes much amusement to the player who watches it wreak havoc upon the lowbies.
