Revision as of 16:10, 20 January 2011
Darkmoon Cards are cards that can be collected and compiled into a Deck, which can then be turned in to the Darkmoon Faire for the reward of an item and Darkmoon Faire reputation. Higher-level decks, which are of most interest to players, award an epic trinket. Lower-level decks award a lower level uncommon or rare item, and a more modest amount of reputation. Neither the individual cards nor the decks are bind on pickup, and a character of any level can create a deck, though the reward will have level requirements.
Higher-level decks and trinkets
Each higher-level deck consists of an Ace and seven sequentially numbered cards, from two to eight. As of Patch 3.0.2, which added inscription, all of these cards may be created by scribes. In fact, the cards for level 80 decks may only be obtained this way. For level 60 and 70 decks, the cards numbered 2-4 may also drop from mobs outside instances and cards numbered 5-8 drop from elite mobs inside instances. The Aces for the level 70 decks can drop from any boss from a level 70 or Heroic instance, while the Aces for the level 60 decks drop from specific bosses:
- [Ace of Warlords] - King Gordok, Dire Maul North
- [Ace of Beasts] - The Beast, Upper Blackrock Spire
- [Ace of Portals] - Darkmaster Gandling, Scholomance
- [Ace of Elementals] - Various elemental Bosses: Lord Incendius, BRD; Hydrospawn, Dire Maul East; The Windreaver, Silithus; Baron Charr, Un'Goro Crater; Princess Tempestria, Winterspring; Avalancion, Azshara (Last four only present during Elemental invasions)
Once a deck is assembled, it offers a quest to turn the deck in to Professor Thaddeus Paleo at the Darkmoon Faire for an epic trinket reward (refer to the table below) and 350 Darkmoon Faire reputation. This may only be done at times when the Darkmoon Faire is running.

Beasts |
The subject of this article or section is part of Darkmoon Faire, an ongoing event that lasts one week. Once the event has run its course, this will no longer be available until next month. The Darkmoon Card: Blue Dragon, one of four level-60 Darkmoon Cards, is a trinket received by turning in the [Beasts Deck] at the Darkmoon Faire. This trinket has a 2% chance per successful spellcast to bypass the 5-Second Rule (5SR): usually, a successful spellcast prevents mana regeneration from Spirit for 5 seconds. Any caster, especially those that use quick spells like [Flash Heal] or [Flash of Light], may find themselves almost always inside the 5SR, and thus rarely regenerating any mana from their Spirit. This trinket is most useful for casters who require constant mana and who have a high amount of Spirit (as a small boost in mana does not really matter in short fights). If this does not fit their playing style, players may find other trinkets — such as [Mindtap Talisman] — to be more useful. Effective MP/5

Furies |
The subject of this article or section is part of Darkmoon Faire, an ongoing event that lasts one week. Once the event has run its course, this will no longer be available until next month. Darkmoon Card: Vengeance is obtained by collecting the Furies cards (ace and 2-8) to assemble a [Furies Deck] which can be turned in at the Darkmoon Faire. Adding reflective damage on being attacked and having the considerable amount of +51 stamina, this card is obviously meant for main tanks. The best use is for a Protection paladin; the Holy damage threat is even more valuable when combined with [Righteous Fury]. Although the proc rate is low, the +51 stamina alone makes this card worthwhile. Patch changes

Elementals |
The subject of this article or section is part of Darkmoon Faire, an ongoing event that lasts one week. Once the event has run its course, this will no longer be available until next month. The Darkmoon Card: Maelstrom, one of four level-60 Darkmoon Cards, is a trinket received by turning in the [Elementals Deck] at the Darkmoon Faire. A highly useful item for melee fighters, it is mostly aimed for Fury Warriors, Dagger Rogues, or Catform Feral Druids, who rely on a high attack rate. This trinket has about 1.5% proc chance, and it procs from every melee strike, including feral attacks (making this very useful for feral Druids) and free strikes. It is known to crit and may be affected by +spell damage (hits over 300 have occurred on non-vulnerable targets), and can be resisted normally as nature damage, it can also hit for 1000-1400 when the target is vulnerable to nature, in BWL for example. Depending on weapon speed, it can add between 1 to 3 DPS (and sometimes higher), on average. It is useful as a damage trinket in high-end raids, in PvP and solo PvE. Patch changes

Darkmoon Card: Wrath is one of the four available Darkmoon Cards trinkets added with the Burning Crusade expansion. SourceThis item is obtained by gathering all eight of the Storms cards, creating the [Storms Deck] by right-clicking on any of the cards, and turning in the deck to the Darkmoon Faire. All the individual cards and the deck itself are BoE items. Cards 2 through 4 are world drops, 5 through 8 are world drops from elite mobs, and the Ace drops from end bosses in instances. Portals |
The subject of this article or section is part of Darkmoon Faire, an ongoing event that lasts one week. Once the event has run its course, this will no longer be available until next month. The Darkmoon Card: Twisting Nether, one of four level-60 Darkmoon Cards, is a trinket received by turning in the [Portals Deck] at the Darkmoon Faire. It has been known to be a "party saver" on a few occasions. This trinket becomes more useful when soloing (so you don't have to run back when you die). In dungeons it serves as wipe protection. It usually won't help you in raids, unless you're a backup healer that tends to die a lot. On world bosses where a death means trouble for a raid (Lord Kazzak, etc), it probably won't be any use to you. However, it doesn't automatically resurrect you, instead working similar to a soulstone and giving you a "Twisting Nether" option along with "Release Spirit." With the advent of the Arena, the Twisting Nether card has seen a surge in popularity. While the chance of proccing the effect is low, and the benefit of the proc quite random, the chance to resurrect in an arena battle can result in a victory that might otherwise have been a loss. Blessings |
The subject of this article or section is part of Darkmoon Faire, an ongoing event that lasts one week. Once the event has run its course, this will no longer be available until next month. The Darkmoon Card: Crusade is made by combining the Ace through [Eight of Blessings]. Grants a total of 120 Attack Power and/or 80 Spell Power after successful attacks and stays active as long as you keep landing successful blows on that opponent within the next 10 seconds. This is a great trinket for increasing your dps on raid or instance boss encounters, however you will not see the full benefit on regular mobs. This trinket is of significant use to any spell/melee Hybrid class (enhancement shaman, protection paladins, and retribution paladins). Other classes may find specific uses for it. For example, the card procs off twice for each tick of [Scorch], and off of each missile from [Arcane Missiles], so after five casts or two casts respectively, the card will be fully stacked. The subject of this article or section is part of Darkmoon Faire, an ongoing event that lasts one week. Once the event has run its course, this will no longer be available until next month. SourceThis item is a quest reward from [1-70] Darkmoon Tsunami Deck. NotesDespite the wording of the item's description, all healing spells are guaranteed to trigger the trinket. This includes both direct heals and heal over time ticks, meaning that you are essentially guaranteed a 100% uptime of the full stack. For all practical purposes, this trinket grants 400 passive spirit to all healers. Patch changes

The subject of this article or section is part of Darkmoon Faire, an ongoing event that lasts one week. Once the event has run its course, this will no longer be available until next month. Darkmoon Card: Madness is obtained by turning in the [Lunacy Deck] at Darkmoon Faire. This trinket has the effect that whenever you land a killing blow on a target, you randomly get one of the following buffs (in which your class is listed): Each buff lasts for 60 seconds. TriviaWhen one of the powers procs, there is a chance your character will say "This is Madness!" This is most likely a reference to the movie 300, and the infamous Sparta quote. The exclamation only appears to the character using the trinket, not to nearby players or even group members (at least as of patch 4.0.1). See also

Lower-level Decks
The cards which form the lesser decks are created only through inscription. As with the major decks, lesser decks are assembled from an Ace and sequential cards numbered two onwards. There are four decks. The [Rogues Deck] consists of only three cards (Ace, Two and Three of Rogues). The [Swords Deck] consists of four cards. The [Mages Deck] and [Demons Deck] consist of five cards each.
Once a deck is assembled, it offers a quest to summon a Darkmoon Fortune Teller. The deck may be turned in to the fortune teller, who awards a choice of item and 25 Darkmoon Faire reputation. This turn-in may done at any time and location, even when the Darkmoon Faire is not running.
