== Ship Specifications ==

The standard Orc juggernaut boasts an impressive frame at approximately 300 feet in length, 60 feet on the beam, 25 foot draft and about 1800 tons displacement. the primary means of propulsion is an enormous phlogiston-boiler. This device has been enlarged to allow the turning of a pair of massive 17.5 foot wide and 56 foot diameter wheels. This makes this particular type of boiler the largest known, beating out even the engines on the goblin zeppelins. The wheels are wood with metal strapping for support and both units are encased in massive reinforced metal cases for defense.

The engine is so large its actually housed amidships from decks two through four in its own compartment, basically trisecting the ship into separate forward, midship and aft compartments. The juggernauts lowest deck is actually little more than a bilge but it reasons that with the amount of engineering going into these vessels would probably have strong bilge pumps located on both the port and starboard sides of the aft and fore bilges for protection. the ships armor is composed of alternating layers of wood and iron plating making the hull roughly 48 inches thick.

The juggernauts engineers have made the keel flatter than most other ships(similar to tug boats), giving the vessel extraordinary resistance from attacks below the oceans surface. Above the bilges are five more decks, both enclosed and weather decks (open to the air). Inside these decks are primarily for storing repair parts, food, weapons, ammunition and as berthing for crew and soldiers, though the ship would house sailors and sharp shooters more than actual marines.

At full speed the ships engines can get the Juggernaut up to 8 knots. The ship would only make use of this speed however if it were giving chase or trying to escape as it would use up vast amounts of fuel. under normal maneuvering the crew would make use of the three port and three starboard sails along with a minimal propulsion from the engines giving her about four to five knots depending on wind speed. This would slow down any fleets traveling with a juggernaut but with the firepower this ship provides most admirals would take the loss eagerly.

Stopping a ship of this size requires the use four total anchors, two 3 & 1/4 ton umbrella anchors aft designed to slow the ship by providing resistance as well as two 3 & 1/2 ton fisherman type anchors used to dig into the bottom and grip the seabed. The chains and housing for these anchors are enormous, all designed to add weight and hold the ship in place.[[Image:WoWScrnShot 102707 031518.jpg|thumb|The Defias Juggernaught aft aerial view]]

The armaments of this vessel are overwhelming to say the least and are split into 6 categories. The ships has permanently mounted weapons built onto tracks within the ships hull. these work similarly to other ships in the cannon is housed inside the ship and pushed out through hatches along the side of the ship. The ship boasts 26 short range cannons, 14 light weight, moderate range guns and 12 heavy weight moderate range guns. These weapons are for attacking nearby ships with the smaller guns located higher up and probably filled with grape shot for taking out deck-side personnel or chain shot for destroying the masts of enemy ships. the ship also has 28 wheel mounted light weight short range guns than can be moved freely about the ships weather decks allowing for repositioning of weapons for various reasons.[[Image:WoWScrnShot 102707 031835.jpg|thumb|The Defias Juggernaught Side view]]

The primary armament of the juggernaut is used for assaulting land based targets from long range. there is one 16 footer mounted forward and aft. Due to the power of these guns the ship must be free floating (not anchored) and must have the engines disengaged from the wheels other wise the immense back pressure will push against the turning wheels and snap the main shafts. On the forward end there is a swivel turret mounting dual 12 inch guns capable of producing very accurate long range fire. While the forward and aft mounted guns are for power and overall devastation, the turret is for pinpointing targets and hit with amazing precision.

As an added defensive measure the ship has 3 large spikes added the port/starboard sides of the foreward section designed as a combination ram, for rupturing hulls at the waterline, and to keep other ships away from the primary forward mounted weaponry. Also some more recently developed and refitted vessels have added an additional protected wheel just aft of the two main wheels for more turning power. the wheels have also been redesigned to allow for independent wheel movement allowing for quick turning and repositioning of mounted weaponry.

Finally there are rumors of a new steering system being added to some designs (most notably the under construction Defias juggernaut) where a rudder has been added to the front of the bow. This "extra" rudder can be locked in place under normal evolutions but steering can be switched to it while the aft rudder is locked in place, the wheels can be set to reverse rudder and the ship can effectively be maneuvered in the opposite direction with ease, allowing the ship to "back up" so to speak.

Orcjuggernaught

Juggernaughts (aka juggernauts) are large ships used in the Horde's navy.

The ogre juggernaughts (aka orc juggernaughts, horde juggernauts and orc juggernauts) were used during the second warTemplate:Cite, and these orc warships are used to this dayTemplate:Cite. These gargantuan ships of war are the main armament in the dark armada of the Horde. Heavily armed and armored, the Juggernaughts are veritable floating fortresses that constitute the greatest implement of destruction within the Horde’s naval forces. While not as swift as the Troll warships, these ruinous craft have quickly come to be feared across the seas of Azeroth for the unrelenting onslaught they render against the Alliance.Template:Cite[1] The Horde are known to defend their Transports with Juggernaughts. The Foundry is instrumental in creating the massive armor plates and lethal cannons that are found on the greatest of the Orc warships - the Juggernaught.Template:Cite

Orc juggernauts rule the seas, raining flaming death on anything foolish enough to combat them. However, orcs do not have as strong a navy as they used to. The Alliance dismantled orc refineries, and stripped their ships for parts. After the founding of Durotar, and the alliance with certain troll and ogre tribes, the Horde’s naval power grows once again.Template:Cite The earliest of the prodigy engineers developed the phlogiston-powered boilers that allowed the Horde to take its ironclad juggernauts to sea.Template:Cite The Horde’s oceangoing juggernauts, are so large or so difficult to construct that few tinkers could complete the task on their own. While untrained workers can assist by moving raw materials and handling simple tasks, multiple, skilled tinkers must combine their efforts to guide the project to timely completion.Template:Cite

The Defias Juggernaught

Interestingly, the Defias Brotherhood seems to be rebuilding one of these ships in the Deadmines.

Notes

  • The so-called Orc and Horde juggernaught/juggernauts appear to be the same type of ship using the same type of technology as Ogre Juggernaughts and appear to be built by ogres (The Stonemaul) much like the originals.
  • Perhaps ogres got to Kalimdor using these.
