Kaldorei

The Kaldorei were a race of nocturnal, feral nomads, that once lived in the jungles^{S&L 128} of the former continent of Kalimdor. They were considered the greatest tribe in the land.^{WRPG 20} They journeyed around the continent eager to uncover secrets hidden in dark places.^{M&M 14} At some point they were drawn to the shimmering power of the Well of Eternity. They named the continent Kalimdor and settled near the vortex of cosmic energy.^{WRPG 20} They re-"adopted" the name Kaldorei meaning "children of the stars" in their native tongue.^{WC3Man 47} The Kaldorei would later be known as night elves.^{M&M 14}

Culture

The Kaldorei venerated the moon goddess Elune even before they settled at the Well of Eternity.^{WoWRPG 250}

Terminology

Kaldorei is a Darnassian word meaning "children of the stars". It can also be interpreted as "people of the stars". It can refer to the Kaldorei tribe which existed before the night elves, to night elves, and sometimes to the Highborne.

The word is usually capitalized when speaking of the people. The Kaldorei people included both the night elf and Highborne elf (Quel'dorei) races.

The naga are cursed Highborne Kaldorei who were smashed to the bottom of the sea during the War of the Ancients.^{S&L 19}

Notes

• Some sources state that the tribe was called the Kaldorei before finding the Well of Eternity. Other sources state it was after the well of eternity.
