Kargath is a small, functional Horde base where orcs and their allies regroup and resupply when adventuring in this part of the world.[1] When the orcs of the Orcish Horde met defeat in Dun Morogh and Loch Modan, they were widely eliminated. This small outpost is the last remnant of these forces, hiding in the far western corner of this harsh landscape, the Badlands. Once the Horde was defeated, the Dustbelcher ogres abandoned the orcs and now take up residence themselves in the area. With their heavy infantry gone, the orcs had little hope of survival, but thankfully the New Horde under the command of Thrall quickly sent aid and reinforcements to the small outpost. Realizing that any territorial holdings would increase the Horde's effectiveness, Thrall opted to make the outpost permanent and established the fort of Kargath, named after former Shattered Hand chieftain, Kargath Bladefist.

On the orders of Thrall himself, the Kargath Expeditionary Force makes frequent excursions into the arid landscape. Exploration of the land has revealed rich mineral and gem deposits, as well as Uldaman, an excavation site that seems to be of high interest to the dwarves. Horde forces are continually sent to Uldaman to explore the secrets the dwarves value so highly. The Horde also have dug a narrow pass into the Searing Gorge in hopes of finding a road to Blackrock Mountain (so as to assault Rend Blackhand), but in doing so have inadvertently let loose the Dark Iron dwarves once again.

Kargath's flight path is very important because it links the northern and the southern areas of Horde flight paths on the Eastern Kingdoms. It links Hammerfall and the Undercity in the north to Grom'Gol, Booty Bay, and Stonard in the south.

This is probably the smallest Horde outpost on Azeroth, save for perhaps the Zoram'Gar Outpost.

Cataclysm This section concerns content related to Cataclysm.

In the upcoming expansion World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, Kargath is destroyed by a landslide during the cataclysm. However most of Kargath's residents are still present in a newly rebuilt and fortified town very close by, in the area near Apocryphan's Rest.[2]
