The Lament of the Highborne is a Thalassian song. The lament was composed by Derek Duke and Russell Brower and sung by artist Vangie Gunn. It appears on the Burning Crusade soundtrack. It is also the name of an in-game book which contains the lyrics of the song of the same name. The book serves no game play purpose, other than to offer the player a chance to reread the lyrics as many times as he/she wishes. The composers have revealed that "the quest design team enhanced a new quest line to incorporate the song as a payoff moment".

  +
The community is quite strong, with active communication between Guilds, especially those on top of the food chain. There is a constant race going on to achieve goals of the endgame content, and this race can be watched through the forums. Even though the "endgame race" came to quite a halt with guilds such as Randoms, Razzamataz and Substance disbanding, and horde side being more or less dead, leaving Unknown Entity as the only real hardcore guild, competition have surfaced with the release of Sunwell Plateau, Unknown Entity getting server first yet again, with the horde guild Border Ruffians announcing their kill a mere 9 minutes later.
−
The lament can be heard in-game from Lady Sylvanas Windrunner and her Highborne Lamenters (pleasant-voiced banshees) after finding her locket (The Lady's Necklace, a gift from her sister Alleria) at Windrunner Spire in the Ghostlands and returning it to the Dark Lady. The Lament of the Highborne song and event were originally absent from the beta phase of The Burning Crusade - however, before release, the event was added to the quest, along with the lyrics to the song. The haunting melody can also be heard as the Burning Crusade credits music, and variations on the lament play in Eversong Woods and certain areas of Ghostlands.

−

−
Originally thought to be a lament to the Fall of Quel'Thalas, or possibly the Troll Wars, Lament of the Highborne is a tribute to both these events and more. The original song may have actually been in Darnassian, but given the similarities between it and Thalassian, this is probably a moot point. The original version is a kaldorei song, lamenting the losses of the War of the Ancients, a tribute to the members of the Kaldorei Resistance who fought against, and died by the claws of, the Burning Legion. Some 2,800 years ago, the words were altered (though the melody remained the same) to reflect the similar losses and courage found in the Troll Wars. The song (possibly modified slightly) rose to popularity in recent years, after the Fall of Quel'Thalas, again to honor the fallen of Quel'Thalas and those who persevered. Hence, the song is a dirge, not for just the high elves, but for all elves; kaldorei, quel'dorei, and sin'dorei alike.

Sunstrider was for period known for it's worse than normal latency issues, often referred to as 'Lagstrider' in game, but these issues now seem to have diminished after the highly anticipated and much needed hardware-upgrades for The Burning Crusade. In truth, many of these latency issues where solved the summer of 2006 already, but the release of the Burning Crusade did erase all problems, more or less.

Players who would like to store the lyrics ingame should finish the quests Horde and Horde. This involves giving Sylvanas Windrunner common, a gift from her beloved sister Alleria. When the singing is finished, talk to Ambassador Sunsorrow afterwards. He will give a book with the lyrics.

−
Hearing the song in-game is still possible even if one chooses not to do the quest line or as Alliance (who cannot do the chain as it is Horde only). Typing <code>/script&nbsp;PlaySoundFile("Sound\\Music\\GlueScreenMusic\\BCCredits_Lament_of_the_Highborne.mp3")</code> into the game chat box, or as part of a simple macro, will cause the song to play. Alternatively, on the login screen, click 'Credits' and the song plays over the credits for the Burning Crusade.

Sunstrider is also well famed with the server's private Molten Core rare spawn mob Magadar. Magadar is assumed to be sister of Magmadar. Not much of her drops are known about this NPC but it is generally considered as "Epix". Recently there is a myth that claims reporting "Magadar Down!" on raid instances general chat brings players huge reputation from other players. This speciality is also considered as a hidden ability of the mob. No guild is yet to kill this famed beast, not even the truly hardcore guilds have even attempted it, and it's presence have not been detected since a Karazhan raid in November 2007.
−
It can now also be heard after the release of Wrath of The Lich King during The Battle of the Undercity event, where Sylvanas starts singing, giving a buff to all the players participating in the event.

The opening of paid character migration hit Sunstrider hard, espicially the horde side. Progressed guilds such as Exodus, Legacy and Hybris had to disband simply because of the lack of a geared/dedicated horde playerbase. Most of the members from these guilds migrated, although quite a bit found a home in Nazgrels Henchmen, who themselves had lost a 20-30'ish members to migration. But eventually, Nazgrels Henchman were forced to toss in the towel aswell, and Horde-raiding progress was declared dead. The best guilds left on horde would for a long time not kill anything but Nefarian, and progress in AQ40 and Naxxramas was non existing.

Alliance-side was screaming for competition PvE-wise, as more and more horde-players migrated from this "dying" realm. The trend has now seem to taken a sudden turn. It seems that Sunstrider has had frequent visits by "spies" representing various guilds on different realms seeking luck and new adventures on another realm than their old. The first batch of players seem to have been from the guild <Mythic> (previously stationed on Shattered Halls), followed by <Cry More> (previously stationed on Laughing Skull) with Xandrika and Vard as the highest profiled players. Vard has a history of creating quite popular realm-events on his previous realm, and the community looks forward to take part of these events. The Sunstrider-community gave the newcomers a warm welcome. Both Alliance and Horde.
−
WWI 2008
  +
Xandrika was quick to organize an Alliance vs Horde match in Tanaris. The event was organized mainly through Sunstrider.net. Even though Alliance was hit by a lagspike that allowed the already awaiting horde guilds to kill most of the non-fighting Alliance players - Xandrika was given a honorable death by Cozur - who immediatly posted a video on Sunstrider.net. The fight was declared a "no-winners" match seeing as the Horde leader was dead, and the Alliance leaders offline.
  +
Later on, the Horde raided Ironforge and killed the King, prompting the Alliance to kill Thrall.
  +
However, no other events such as this have been organized for quite some time.

  +
Horde progress was hit in the groin when Border Ruffians disbanded due to one of their rogues ninja'ing a Warglaive off Illidan.
−
The song was performed live during the Video Games Live Concert at the WWI 2008

  +
Even though Aphorism had surpassed Border Ruffians a long time ago, it was still a major blow to the horde side seeing their second best guild go down the drain.

Notes
−
*Much like as is shown in the machinima, the song can actually be heard all throughout Undercity when triggered by the quest (much like a zone-wide announcement), displacing the Undercity theme music if it is playing.

−
*If Sylvanas happens to be attacked by the Alliance while she is singing the s will immediately despawn and she will engage in battle. The event will not pick up where it left off, nor will Sylvanas retrieve Alleria's necklace from the ground should she de-aggro. Lament of the Highborne will still continue to play until the song is finished however.
