The Mantid Swarm is a swarm that results from the emergence of a new generation of Mantid from the Dread Wastes. The massive swarm assaults the rest of Pandaria, devouring everything in its path. Only the strongest mantid return from the journey. Circa the Mists of Pandaria, the mantid are swarming a full 100 years too early, so the the Klaxxi leadership of the Mantid seek help from adventurers to puzzle out why this is happening. Some suspect the influence of a corrupted Mantid Queen.

Sometime during the ascendence of the Pandaren Empire, the pandaren built great wall known as the Serpent's Spine, to keep the mantid swarms at bay.
