A marmot is generally a large ground squirrel. The brown marmot is the most well known.^{LotC 154}

In World of Warcraft

In World of Warcraft, the most common type of marmot, the  Brown Marmot, is only seen in the Blade's Edge Mountains area.

You can control another type of marmot besides the Brown Marmot, simply called a  Marmot, when you are on the quest  [67] The Smallest Creatures by using the [Kodohide Drum] by a cave near Bloodmaul Camp. Note that the "Brown Marmot" become the "Marmot" when controlled by a player.

The  Borean Marmot can be found around the Borean Tundra.

In Ulduar, Brann Bronzebeard yells to Archmage Rhydian, "Sneak?! What do you think we are, marmots?"

Trivia

Brown Marmots respawn instantly when killed to prevent the quest from becoming impossible.
