Maruut Stonebinder was first seen in the tauren city of Thunder Bluff during the Elemental Unrest, preceding The Shattering. He is later encountered within the Temple of Earth^{[49, 52]}

in Deepholm, where he acts as head of the Earthen Ring forces attempting to restore the World Pillar and is also a major quest giver. He gives his life in the attempt to repair the Pillar.
