Mataus the Wrathcaster is a rather unfriendly Mage and member of the Scarlet Crusade. He currently resides at Light's Hope Chapel, accompanying Scarlet Commander Marjahn while she engages in discussion with members of the Brotherhood of Light, a minor and more violent offshoot of the Argent Dawn. He tends to treat others with outright contempt and holds a ridiculously high opinion of himself, even so far to the point of referring to himself in the third-person. Another unusual aspect of this character is his rather bizarre attire, which is stark black and white with an akwardly worn tabard. One could assume that those that complain to him about being out of uniform more than likely learn why he's called the "Wrathcaster" in a painful way.

Mataus is responsible for creating the Ice and Shadow Guard enchantments, which can be applied to leg or head equipment to provide a permanent 10 resistance to the item. Mataus will trade one for 10 Inv misc token scarletcrusade [Insignia of the Crusade] and 30 gold. Further supporting his better-than-thou attitude is the fact that he is considered an Elite character, though one could argue that all 1.11 patch NPC's in Light's Hope Chapel are Elite in order to curb the senseless ganking of Argent Dawn NPC's, and that the Scarlet Crusade NPC's simply reflect that change as well.

There is no story or hint as to what Mataus has done or been involved with before his current appearance. As of now, he is for all intents and purposes, "lore-less". On an entirely separate note, many players find it humorous that despite his rude and violent text, his voice files reflect that of the jolliest male voice samples. "Hey there!" Have a good one!" And "Can I do something for you?" all in a chipper, happy voice are common. Whether this is a development oversight or an intentional joke remains unknown.

Quotes:

"What is is you want, lemming? Get out of my sight before you find out why I am known as the Wrathcaster."
