The Mechanical Chicken item summons and dismisses a Mechanical Chicken, a chicken Companion.
Oglethorpe Obnoticus, the master gnomish engineer, has created three larger metal chickens to explore Tanaris, Feralas, and the Hinterlands, but his strange inventions have gotten lost. If a player finds a beacon to lead them to the downed bird, they can escort the mechanical chicken to safety. If you save all three of his inventions, Oglethorpe Obnoticus gives you a gift: a pet mechanical chicken!

The Mechanical Chicken is the final quest ( [50] An OOX of Your Own) reward from Oglethorpe's Homing Robots quest chain, which involves completing three escort quests in Feralas, Tanaris and The Hinterlands. Each escort quest begins with an item drop.
The easiest way to obtain the drop for the Tanaris escort quest is by doing Zul'Farrak, however if the object drops only one person can have it, so make sure you tell your group you need it before you enter the instance.
The object for the escort quest in The Hinterlands has the highest drop chance in Jintha'Alor.
The object for the escort quest in Feralas is a random drop from any mob in that zone, so the best thing is just to do quests there. Feral Scar Yetis are considered to have the highest drop rates for this item.
NotesEdit
This is not to be confused with the [Gnomish Battle Chicken], a more vicious sort of machine created by Engineering. They are unusual items that protect their maker when used.
