A Mechanical Repair Kit has only one charge. You can use it once, and then it's gone. If you intend to repair a lot, bring multiple kits. They stack in lots of five.
While there exist some mechanical targets you might wish to repair, there are not many. Note that of the ones below, the Battle Chicken lasts the longest (90 seconds).

If holding a PvP objective is important, like the main keep in Wintergrasp, Mechanical Repair Kits will also heal vehicles and turrets for approximately 2k health. A small team of engineers could theoretically top off turrets in the main keep after unsuccessful assaults. These do not, however, appear to heal walls.
