This article contains lore taken from Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, the manuals, and/or official bonus maps.
The Monoliths were rune-inlaid stones in Ashenvale which warped the forest creatures into destructive, feral monsters in the official [Blizzard] scenario map for Warcraft III called "Monolith". The forest beings who were warped included dark trolls, satyrs, furbolgs, forest trolls, spiders, wolves and skinks. These forest creatures were powered by the monoliths and monolith shards which were both destroyed by the forces of humans, orcs, undead and night elves. This even probably happened after the death of Archimonde, because the mentioned forces were fighting on the same team against the forest creatures.
