The Eclipse mechanic is now available to all Druids who have specced into Balance, and is active while the Druid is in caster or Moonkin forms. Casting File:Spell Nature wrathv2.png [Wrath] or [Starfire] will move the Eclipse Bar to an extremity, where it will buff the other spell until the pointer is back at zero.
Mechanics
Casting [Wrath] will cause the Druid to gain 13 Lunar Energy; casting [Starfire] will cause the Druid to gain 20 Solar Energy. Casting [Starsurge] will give 15 Lunar or Solar Energy, depending on which eclipse has last procced. The spell will trigger one of two buffs when Lunar Energy or Solar Energy has reached 100. Eclipse (Solar) or Eclipse (Lunar) will stay active until Wrath, Starfire or Starsurge has been cast enough to move the pointer back to zero. A pointer on the Eclipse Bar indicates which direction the next spell will move it. When cast while an Eclipse buff is active, Starsurge will always cause the bar to move toward zero, and it will continue to generate that type of energy until the other Eclipse has procced. If Wrath is cast during a Lunar Eclipse or Starfire is cast during a Solar Eclipse, it will have no effect on the Eclipse Bar either way.
To summarize, the usual rotation is to cast [Starsurge] whenever it is off cooldown and to cast either [Wrath] or [Starfire], depending on which one will give you energy at the moment.
The main use of the mechanic is the damage, but it also resets the cooldown on [Nature's Grace], as well as giving mana with [Euphoria], so in a PvE environment you should constantly be switching from one eclipse to the other.
Remember that a Solar Eclipse also affects [Sunfire], [Insect Swarm], [Hurricane], [Typhoon] and [Wild Mushroom], and a Lunar Eclipse also affects [Moonfire] and [Starfall], so they should be cast if possible during the appropriate eclipse.
Improvements
The [Euphoria] talent sometimes causes your Wrath and Starfire to generate double energy. The mastery Total Eclipse increases the benefit of eclipse by 12% + 1.5% per extra point of mastery.
Notes
- A useful strategy in some battlegrounds is to stay in either Lunar Eclipse for an increased effect on [Starfall] and your [Moonfire] spam, or to stay in Solar Eclipse to buff your [Insect Swarm] as well as the then-morphed [Sunfire] spam.
- The Eclipse procced by File:Spell Nature wrathv2.png [Wrath] is called Lunar Eclipse, whereas [Starfire] procs Solar Eclipse.
Patch changes
- Patch 4.0.1a (2010-10-26): The pointer on the Eclipse Bar indicates where it goes to after the next Starsurge.
- Patch 4.0.1 (2010-10-12): An Eclipse Bar has now been added and the mechanic has been reworked.
- Patch 3.3.3 (2010-03-23): (Undocumented changes) The two buffs granted by the Eclipse talent are now named more clearly. [Wrath] procs Eclipse (Lunar) and [Starfire] procs Eclipse (Solar). Previously, they were both named just "Eclipse".
- Patch 3.3.0 (2009-12-08): This effect will not activate again within 15 seconds of either type of Eclipse effect firing, in addition to the existing 30-second cooldown for each type of Eclipse. In addition, Eclipse now grants a 40% critical strike chance to Starfire and 40% increased damage to Wrath, up from 30%.
- Patch 3.2.0 (2009-08-04): The Starfire and Wrath buffs from this talent are now on separate 30 second. cooldowns. In addition, it is not possible to have both buffs active simultaneously.
- Patch 3.1.0 (2009-04-14): The benefit to Wrath triggered by casting Starfire has been increased to 30% bonus damage.
- Patch 3.0.3 (2008-11-04): Buff duration extended to 15 sec and bonuses doubled. The cooldown has been increased to 40 seconds.
- Patch 3.0.2 (2008-10-14): Added.
