Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos
This article or section contains lore taken from Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, the manuals, and official bonus maps.

The necropolis serves as the central command structure of the undead army. Lumber harvested by ghouls is processed, and loyal acolytes train for tasks from their undead masters. Even when unattended, the vengeful spirits of the dead protect the necropolis from enemy attackers. In time, this structure can be further modified to become the Halls of the Dead.W3Man 43 After that, it also may turn into a Black Citadel.

In World of Warcraft, they have been sighted during the Scourge Invasion, but also the mighty Naxxramas could be found in the Eastern Plaguelands. In Wrath of the Lich King, Naxxramas moves to the Dragonblight, and there will be six new necropoleis - one to replace Naxxramas in EPL, two in Borean Tundra, and three in Zul'Drak. There may be more in areas such as Icecrown Glacier.

The plural form is "necropoleis", and not "necropoli".[1]
