Storm giants (also called Northrend giants) are a mysterious race of Giants that reside in the Storm Peaks of Northrend. They are in charge of the crystal golems that collect crystals from the Crystalsong Forest.LoM 97
They’re impressive, more than 30 feet tall and powerfully built. Storm giants are capable of summoning small storms. Storm giants began in the Storm Peaks, and perhaps the dwarves and troggs as well. Myths say the Titans created them. When the titans disappeared, the storm giants remained and claimed Ulduar. They developed crystalline golems to aid them in their research and to defend them. Over time the giants have dwindled in number and grown ever more reclusive. They usually keep to themselves, hidden in their caves and tunnels below the surface, and avoid visitors. Now only a handful remains. The giants are a dying race desperately avoiding their fate. They seem to think another race will vanquish them some day, and so they hide in the Storm Peaks and Ulduar rather than girding for battle. They are too frightened to battle the Scourge, though apparently they hate it.LoM 109, 110
The Northrend giant is another example of the marriage between the epic and lighthearted themes that influence the look and feel of Wrath of the Lich King. These terrifying creatures are the largest to date in World of Warcraft. As a frame of reference, the Fel Reavers stomping around Hellfire Peninsula would only come up to a Northrend giant’s chest. They have learned to adapt to the threat of constant attack by creatures much, much smaller than themselves by doing what any sensible giant would do -- cover their shins and feet liberally with salvaged items such as castle doors strapped to their feet or dozens of shields covering their ankles. Look closely, and you might see the skeleton of an unfortunate gnome who didn’t get out of the giant’s path fast enough. However, if you’re close enough to see it, that might be a bad thing....[1]
In undeath they become flesh giants.
Notable storm giants
Aesir
The common term "storm giant" would be "Aesir" when translated into the Titan language, thus they would share the same name as the Aesir titans.
