She is found on the beach with Jessel, Jane, and her cat Manny.

Nova may be derived from the character of the same name from StarCraft, possessing a shared gender and cat ownership.

Jane, along with Nova, may be a reference to Jenova in Final Fantasy VII, who is also known as Sephiroth's "Mother".
