Obliterate is a death knight ability that allows the death knight to deal high damage, at the cost of consuming diseases on the target.
Obliterate is a staple ability in the arsenal of blood and frost death knights. Its major limitation is that it consumes diseases. This can be eliminated by the talent Annihilation. Because of this, it is only really viable for Frost-specced death knights.
Like a few other death knight abilities, Obliterate uses a percentage of weapon damage, and therefore packs a bigger punch with a 2-handed weapon.

Improvements Edit
Talents Edit
- Annihilation gives Obliterate a 33/66/100% chance to not consume diseases.
- Subversion increases critical strike chance by 3/6/9%.
- Guile of Gorefiend increase critical strike damage bonus by 15/30/45%. As of Patch 3.2.0, Might of Mograine no longer gives its bonus to Obliterate.
- Merciless Combat increases Obliterate damage by 6/12% on targets with less than 35% health.
- Rime increases critical strike chance by 5/10/15% and makes Obliterate have a 5/10/15% chance to cause your next Howling Blast to consume no runes and resets the cooldown on Howling Blast. (Rime generates a buff called Freezing Fog when Obliterate procs the Howling Blast cooldown reset.)
- Death Rune Mastery grants a 33/66/100% to cause the runes used by Obliterate to become Death Runes when they reactivate.

- Unholy Death Knights can easily replace Obliterate with Scourge Strike since it does a bit more damage, does not consume diseases, and has the same rune cost.
