Forums: Village pumpWarcraft games How do you do Warcraft 1/2 screenshots with clear minimap (no crosshatching) and/or menus hidden?

Ok, I have left a message on a few talk pages, but it could be months til someone sees that for all I know, or maybe never.... SOoo, I thought I'd ask here too in case anyone knows :S

I have only just been trying them out cos I was curious about the background story behind world of warcraft... And those other pics I have seen others have uploaded I cannot figure out how to do, as when I take a screenshot of the game, it always has crosshatching/thin black grid over the minimap of areas that none of your army can actually see at that current moment, even when you use the 'showpath' reveal map cheat!

I know it can definitely be done, because of these pics other people uploaded:

With Warcraft 2 in these pics you can actually see the minimap clearly there's no dark/crosshatched areas on the minimap:

Warcraft II Tides of Darkness - Orcs Mission 03 (game demo) Channel islands (compare to one of mine)

With Warcraft 1, all the menus have been hidden from the screen and it looks like it's at much higher resolution cos more can fit on the screen?

Temple of the Damned

(compare to one of mine)

Original messages:

The only reason I want these is not for myself but so I can put screenshots in the region articles of layouts in the old games so can see how different or similar they are, most of the places in world of warcraft seem to be places you visit in the previous games!

I've answered on your talk page as I hadn't seen this forum. So that other people know how to do the WC1 image from above I'll explain it here too: I took a bunch of screenshots and put them together in paint, then I saved the image in Irfanview so that it doesn't lose quality by saving it in paint. In Warcraft II, use cheats.--IconSmall Falric Sir Tristram (Speak, mortal. My Conquests.) 20:35, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
What cheats? In the screenshot I made that is linked after I showed the 2 here that have the minimap revealed I said I was actually using the 'showpath' cheat, and you can see that the whole map is revealed in the screenshot. But the areas that no one can actually see at that moment are greyed out/crosshatched, yet in the 2 screenshots posted here the minimap is not! Is there another cheat to use then, or some other method? I am guessing you probably just missed where I said I used the showpath cheat already?
Here, I made the 2nd screenshot above bigger as well as my screenshot I linked after it bigger so hopefully you can better see what I mean?

Disable the fog of war under preferences (or some part of the menu).--SWM2448 23:06, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
Menu (F10) -> Options (F5) -> Preferences (F9) -> Fog of War [Toggle] Off/On
I actually tried that before but it did not seem to do anything. So I just did some experimenting turning it off then on again a few times and found something out - it seems to treat areas you uncovered legitimately with a unit differently than when you use the cheat to uncover it. If you have Fog of War off then use showpath cheat (I always had fog of war off) stuff is still crosshatched/greyed out.... BUT if you explore it with a unit it stays fully explored.
Ok, so exploring the whole map will get you a full minimap, the cheat is useless, maybe, but that can't be right since you can see in that screenshot by Baggins he hasn't moved any characters from the starting position or built any more buildings, everything is in exactly the same place as in my screenshot... so there must be another way of uncovering the map fully without having to send your people all around the map? --Kittymew (talk) 00:18, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

What version of Warcraft II are you using?--IconSmall Falric Sir Tristram (Speak, mortal. My Conquests.) 02:13, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

"WARCRAFT 2X RETAIL v1.3" on the main menu and when I exit to DOSbox --Kittymew (talk) 02:52, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
I tried with V1.5 and with the cheat code "on screen" all the map is explored and the fog of war is disabled, just like the picture of Baggins. Benitoperezgaldos (talk) 03:23, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
'on screen' did it, thank you so much! As mentioned before I was using 'showpath' before! Yay :) Thanks so much! :) I remember trying that code before but it did not do anything so I started using showpath instead I figured it was a bugged one and forgot about it (can't remember if that was before I messed around with fog of war settings)! --Kittymew (talk) 03:42, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
