Talents
Notes
- An often life-saving shield, while being pounded on by multiple enemies, particularly in arenas.
- The 65% Dispel resistance stacks with the [Silent Resolve] talent, giving all buffs an 85% resist chance.
- In Patch 2.2 the spell received a slight change in functionality, as described in the patch 2.2 notes. The change affected the dispel resistance of all buffs currently on the priest at the time of the spells activation and through its duration, rather than only buffs cast while the spell is active.
- As of Patch 2.3, now usable on friendly targets (was self-only), instantly reduces the target's threat by 5%, reduces damage taken by 40% (was 65%) and its cooldown has been reduced to 2 minutes (was 3 minutes).
Description
- Spell description: "All damage taken reduced by 40% and resistance to Dispel mechanics increased by 65%."
Strategy
Pain Suppression really shines in a PvP or Arena situation. No one likes to have their enemies healed, so healers are often "target #1" and focused on by many enemies at once -especially in arenas. A common strategy for an opposing group, is to all simultaneously blow their most powerful cooldowns and spells on the enemy's healer. To avoid being instantly knocked out of the game a priest can pop this spell in an attempt to survive the onslaught. If used with any combination of fear, shield, or grenade, and heals, it is possible to survive an otherwise hopeless situation. Hopefully, while the priest was the focus, his enemies will have been destroyed or fairly weakened by teammates.
Coupled with [Silent Resolve], it is rare that Pain Suppression and any shield or HoTs will be removed.
Pain Suppression is also very useful in end game progression raids. Several high end guilds have made their holy priests go down the Discipline Tree to get this talent. Since it is now castable on another target, Pain Suppression can potentially save a raid. The 5% threat reduction is not enough for a good tank to lose aggro, yet just enough to cast on a dps who accidentally pulled. In situations where mass AoE is needed a Pain Suppression is incredibly useful. Casted on a Mage or Warlock it will help him deal with the mass damage they will receive from multiple mobs.
