A Philosopher's Stone is required by a high-level (225+) Alchemist to perform Transmutations.
The recipe to create a Philosopher's Stone is a level 225 Alchemy recipe. The recipe can purchased from Alchemist Pestlezugg in Gadgetzan and requires:
- 4x Iron Bars
- 4x [Purple Lotus]
- 1x [Black Vitriol]
- 4x [Firebloom]
The Stone must be in the Alchemist's inventory before a transmutation can be performed, and is not consumed by the transmutation. Most transmutations have a long cooldown (24 hours in some cases, 48 hours for Truesilver or Arcanite). Multiple Stones do not allow an Alchemist to perform more rapid transmutations.
Uses for Philosopher's Stone
Philosopher's Stone is needed for the following recipes:
- Transmute: Air to Fire
- [Transmute: Arcanite]
- Transmute: Earth to Life
- Transmute: Earth to Water
- [Transmute: Elemental Fire]
- Transmute: Fire to Earth
- [Transmute: Iron to Gold]
- Transmute: Life to Earth
- [Transmute: Mithril to Truesilver]
- Transmute: Undeath to Water
- Transmute: Water to Air
- Transmute: Water to Undeath
History
- Was originally called Alchemist's back in beta.
- When changed to Philosopher's Stone every recipe requiring it was changed except Flask of Petrification. This change was made in the same beta patch that introduced the level 60 level cap. Sometime in September 2004.
- This was later fixed in Retail. Sometime in April of 2005.
