Plague Zombie are part of the Zombie infestation world event.

Starting a Plague Zombie

Conspicuous Crates have appeared in Booty Bay and in other towns.

Interacting with these crates gives a player a disease which runs for 10 minutes.

InfectionZombie2008

At the conclusion of the disease the player dies and is raised as a plague zombie.

Being attacked by a zombie will almost certainly infect you.

(Un)life as a Plague Zombie

All undead are friendly to the player. Most mobs are neutral (and attackable). All living players from any faction are hostile and can be attacked even if not flagged.

The zombie gets about a 50% health buff and a new skill bar.

Your base speed is 50% of running speed.

You no longer have a breath bar because you no longer need to breathe. Thus, you can remain underwater indefinately, subject to availability of humanoid life to keep your health bar topped up.

You cannot loot mobs that you kill; however, if you have other npc zombies with you and damage a mob sufficiently (to tag it and get looting rights normally) but then let your 'associates' get the killing blow, you may loot those mobs.

Health

Your health slowly drains away constantly. You must attack living humanoid mobs or players to regain health. Each successful autoattack returns 3% of your total health to you. The level of the target is not a factor, you recieve health from any humaniod.

Abilities

You posess 5 abilities: (in bar position order)

  • Mangle! A sunder effect which does +damage and reduces the targets armor by 3%
  • Retch! spit out some green slime which makes a cloud which:
    • Heals zombies in contact with it including you.
    • Slows humanoid mobs to 50%
    • This effect stacks from multiple zombies.
    • One stacking (i.e. you cast one and stand in it) will almost stop your life loss but not quite.
  • Beckoning Groan: Call 4 zombies who must not be in combat to your side. 40 yard range.
  • Lunge! Doubles speed for (10-15) seconds. This gives the zombie normal (100%) running speed.
  • Zombie Explosion! Channeled. At the end of the channeling the zombie explodes, infecting all humanoids around them.
    • You may release to the graveyard after doing this one.
    • The humanoids all start their 10 minute timer.
    • Seems to be about 8 yards or so.

Spreading the plague

Attacking humanoids almost always spreads the disease to them. If you kill them they come back as a zombie with full health immediately. If not they become zombies when the disease has run its course unless they get healed.

NPCs come back at their level with the last digit of 0. i.e. new = int(level/10)*10.

  • level 75 city guards come back as level 70
  • level 65 town guards come back as level 60
  • level 9 and less npcs come back as level 1
  • dont know if a level 60 comes back as 50 or 60 though.

NPCs which return as zombies switch to a mode like an aggressive hunter/warlock pet and will attack any living thing in their radius. If they attack humanoids, they recieve the healing from attacks like the PC zombies.

If you attack anything which would normally cause pvp, pvp mobs, players from either faction, etc. you are flagged as pvp. If any player attacks you, they are also flagged. Either faction can attack you whether you are flagged or not, and all guard type npcs are hostile to you.

If you can kill a town guard, it will fight alongside you to kill others and you can build a sizeable undead army since your attacks and your fellow zombies attacks all spread the plague to others.

Back to the living

Once you run out of health as a zombie either through combat, exploding, or health attrition, you die and get the normal release to the graveyard dialog. You release to the nearest graveyard from the zombie death, not the one where your living form initially died.

Life not as a zombie

A number of Argent Healers have showed up all over the place. These will heal the disease off of players. If your are a zombie they will cast Righteous Fire at you which will kill you in at most 3 attacks.

There are also wards placed across the doors to every inn in capital cities and at each auction house entrance to cleanse the diease from anyone trying to enter those places.

The argent healers are also present in many towns near the flight points or by the inn.
