As priests are mana based spell-casters, their abilities vary greatly. This is dependent on choices of specialization and tree selection. For instance healers focus more on healing, protection, buffing and the removal of harmful buffs, wheres Shadow priests are experts in direct and damage over time, as well as indirect healing.

Draws on the soul of the friendly target to shield them, absorbing X damage. Lasts 15 sec. While the shield holds, spellcasting will not be interrupted by damage. Once shielded, the target cannot be shielded again for 15 sec.
Infuses the target with vitality, increasing Stamina by 10% for 1 hour. If the target is in your party or raid, all party and raid members will be affected.
Shackles the target undead enemy for up to 50 sec. The shackled unit is unable to move, attack or cast spells. Any damage caused will release the target. Only one target can be shackled at a time.
Allows the friendly party or raid target to levitate, floating a few feet above the ground. While levitating, the target will fall at a reduced speed and travel over water. Any damage will cancel the effect. Lasts 10 min.
Restores 2% mana to 3 nearby low mana friendly party or raid targets every 2 sec for 8 sec, and increases their total maximum mana by 15% for 8 sec. Maximum of 12 mana restores. The Priest must channel to maintain the spell.
Places a spell on the target that heals them for X the next time they take damage. When the heal occurs, Prayer of Mending jumps to a party or raid member within 20 yards. Jumps up to 5 times and lasts 30 sec after each jump. This spell can only be placed on one target at a time.
Dispels magic in a 15 yard radius, removing all harmful spells from each friendly target and 1 beneficial spell from each enemy target. Affects a maximum of 10 friendly targets and 10 enemy targets. This dispel is potent enough to remove Magic effects that are normally undispellable.
A burst of Holy energy fills the caster, reducing the mana cost of instant cast spells by 15% and increasing your movement speed by 10%. You can only have Inner Will or Inner Fire active at a time.
You and the currently targeted party or raid member swap health percentages. Increases the lower health percentage of the two to 25% if below that amount.
Removes the cooldown on Power Word: Shield. In addition, when your Power Word: Shield is completely absorbed or dispelled you are instantly energized with mana equal to 150% of your Spirit. This effect can only occur once every 12 sec.
When you deal direct damage with Smite or Holy Fire you gain Evangelism. Stacks up to 5 times. Lasts for 20 sec. Evangelism: Increases the damage done by your Smite and Holy Fire spells by 4% and reduces the mana cost of those spells by 6%.
Your Flash Heal, Greater Heal, Heal and Penance spells bless the target with Grace, increasing all healing received from the Priest by 10%. This effect will stack up to 3 times. Effect lasts 15 sec.
When you deal damage with Smite, Holy Fire, and Penance, you instantly heal a nearby low health friendly target within 15 yards from the enemy target for 100% of the damage dealt. If the Priest is healed through Atonement, the effect is reduced by 50%.
Summons a holy barrier on the target location that reduces all damage done to friendly targets by 25%. While within the barrier, spellcasting will not be interrupted by damage. The barrier lasts for 10 sec.
When you heal with Greater Heal, the cooldown of your Inner Focus is reduced by 5 sec. When you Smite, the cooldown of your Penance is reduced by 0.5 sec.
Upon death, the Priest becomes the Spirit of Redemption for 15 sec. The Spirit of Redemption cannot move, attack, be attacked or targeted by any spells or effects. While in this form the Priest can cast any healing spell free of cost. When the effect ends, the Priest dies.
When you heal with Binding Heal or Flash Heal, the cast time of your next Greater Heal or Prayer of Healing spell is reduced by 20% and mana cost reduced by 10%. Stacks up to 2 times. Lasts 20 sec.
Creates a Holy Lightwell. Friendly players can click the Lightwell to restore X health over 6 sec. Attacks done to you equal to 30% of your total health will cancel the effect. Lightwell lasts for 3 min or 15 charges.
Increases the damage done by your Shadow and Holy spells by 15%, grants a 10% chance for Smite to reset the cooldown of Holy Word: Chastise, reduces the mana cost of Smite and Holy Fire by 75%, and transforms your Holy Word spell back into Holy Word: Chastise. Holy Word: Chastise: Chastise the target for 627 to 702 (+ 61.4% of SpellPower) Holy damage, and disorients them for 3 sec. 30 sec cooldown.
Increases the healing done by your area of effect healing spells by 15%, reduces the cooldown of your Circle of Healing spell by 2 sec, and transforms your Holy Word: Chastise spell into Holy Word: Sanctuary. Holy Word: Sanctuary: Blesses the ground with Divine light, healing all within it for X every 2 sec for 30 sec. Only one Sanctuary can be active at any one time. 40 sec cooldown.
Increases the healing done by your single-target healing spells by 15%, causes them to refresh the duration of your Renew on the target, and transforms your Holy Word: Chastise spell into Holy Word: Serenity. Holy Word: Serenity: Instantly heals the target for X, and increases the critical effect chance of your healing spells on the target by 25% for 6 sec. 15 sec cooldown.
Calls upon a guardian spirit to watch over the friendly target. The spirit increases the healing received by the target by 60%, and also prevents the target from dying by sacrificing itself. This sacrifice terminates the effect but heals the target of 50% of their maximum health. Lasts 10 sec.
Heals 5 nearby lowest health friendly party or raid targets within 40 yards for X every 2 sec for 8 sec, and increases healing done to them by 10% for 8 sec. The Priest must channel to maintain the spell.
Consumes all of the caster's Shadow Orbs to deal X Shadow damage and an additional X Shadow damage every 1 sec for 6 sec. Also heals the caster for 1% of their maximum health when it deals periodic damage. Damage and healing increased based on the number of Shadow Orbs consumed.
Assume a Shadowform, increasing your Shadow damage by 20%, reducing all damage done to you by 15%, and increasing all party and raid members spell haste by 5%. However, you may not cast Holy spells while in this form.
When you deal critical periodic damage with your Shadow Word: Pain, you have a 100% chance to summon a shadow version of yourself which will slowly move towards a target which is afflicted by your Shadow Word: Pain. Once reaching the target, it will instantly deal X Shadow damage. You can have up to 3 Shadowy Apparitions active at a time.
You disperse into pure Shadow energy, reducing all damage taken by 90%. You are unable to attack or cast spells, but you regenerate 6% mana every 1 sec for 6 sec. Dispersion can be cast while stunned, feared or silenced. Clears all snare and movement impairing effects when cast, and makes you immune to them while dispersed.
Consumes all Shadow Orbs to terrify the target, causing them to tremble in horror for 1 sec plus 1 sec per Shadow Orb consumed and to drop their weapons and shield for 10 sec.
Fills you with the embrace of Shadow energy, causing you and your allies to be healed for 50% of any single-target Shadow spell damage you deal, split evenly between them. Lasts 15 sec.
Causes an explosion of holy light around the caster, causing X Holy damage to all enemy targets within 10 yards and healing up to 5 targets within 10 yards for X. Healing is divided among the number of targets healed. These effects cause no threat.
Draws on the soul of the party member to shield them, absorbing X damage. Lasts 30 sec. While the shield holds, spellcasting will not be interrupted by damage. Once shielded, the target cannot be shielded again for 15 sec.
A burst of Holy energy fills the caster, increasing armor by X. Each melee or ranged damage hit against the priest will remove one charge. Lasts 30 min or until 20 charges are used.
Afflicts the target with a disease that causes X Shadow damage over 24 sec. 15% of damage caused by the Devouring Plague heals the caster. This spell can only affect one target at a time.
Causes an explosion of holy light around the caster, causing X to Y Holy damage to all enemy targets within 10 yards and healing all party members within 10 yards for Z to V. These effects cause no threat.

Dispels magic in a 15 yard radius, removing 1 harmful spell from each friendly target and 1 beneficial spell from each enemy target. Affects a maximum of 10 friendly targets and 10 enemy targets. This dispel is potent enough to remove Magic effects that are normally undispellable.
Causes an explosion of shadow magic around the enemy target, causing X to Y Shadow damage every 1 sec. for 5 sec. to all enemies within 10 yards around the target.
You recite a Holy hymn, summoning the power of the Divine to assist you in your time of need. Heals 3 nearby lowest-health friendly party or raid targets for X every 2 seconds for 8 seconds, and increases healing done to them by 15% for 8 seconds. Maximum of 12 heals. The Priest must channel to maintain the spell.
You recite a Holy hymn, restoring hope to those in despair. Restores 3% mana to 3 nearby low mana friendly party or raid targets every 2 seconds for 8 seconds, and temporarily increases their total maximum mana by 20% for 8 seconds. After the effect expires, the mana is lost. Maximum of 12 mana restorations. The Priest must channel to maintain the spell.
Talent abilities
Talent spells are spells or abilities that can be accessed by spending talent points. Some have further ranks that can be purchased from the trainer, while others are simply one-shot abilities. The points listed show the minimum amount of points you need to spend in the tree to access the talent.
When activated, reduces the mana cost of your next spell by 100% and increases its critical effect chance by 25% if it is capable of a critical effect.

Causes X Shadow damage over 15 sec to your target and causes up to 10 party or raid members to gain 0.25% of their maximum mana per second when you deal damage from Mind Blast. In addition, if the Vampiric Touch is dispelled it will cause X damage to the afflicted target.

Codex abilities
A codex is an item that can teach a new or a specific rank of a learned ability to a priest. These abilities used to be available only via codices. Since patch 2.1.0 they can be learned from a trainer as well.
Increases total Spirit by 5%, and upon death, the priest becomes the Spirit of Redemption for 15 sec. The Spirit of Redemption cannot move, attack, be attacked or targeted by any spells or effects. Assume a Shadowform, increasing your Shadow damage by 15% and reducing Physical damage done to you by 15%. However, you may only cast Shadow and Discipline spells while in this form.
Causes 450 Shadow damage over 15 sec to your target and causes all party members to gain mana equal to 5% of any Shadow spell damage you deal. Lasts 15 sec.
An instant casting spell that damages a single target for 450 to 522. If the target survives the spell, the caster receives the same amount of damage dealt.
Causes an explosion of holy light around the caster, causing 112 to 130 Holy damage to all enemy targets within 10 yards and healing all party members within 10 yards for 182 to 210. These effects cause no threat.
Dispels magic on the target, removing 1 harmful spell from a friend or 1 beneficial spell from an enemy.(Rank Two dispels 2 Harmful Spells and 2 Beneficial)

(41 point talent) Instantly reduces a friendly target's threat by 5%, reduces all damage taken by 40% and increases resistance to Dispel mechanics by 65% for 8 seconds.
(11 point talent) Causes an explosion of holy light around the caster, causing X to Y Holy damage to all enemy targets within 10 yards and healing all party members within 10 yards for Z to V. These effects cause no threat.
(21 point talent) Afflicts your target with Shadow energy that causes all party members to be healed for 15% of any Shadow spell damage you deal for 1 minute.
(31 point talent) Assume a Shadowform, increasing your Shadow damage by 15% and reducing Physical damage done to you by 15%. However, you may not cast Holy spells while in this form.
Power infuses the target's party and raid members, increasing their Spirit by X for 1.00 hour.
Racial abilities
This section contains information removed from the game and is kept for historical purposes only.
Prior to patch 3.0.2, priests got two additional spells according to their race, first at level 10 and then at level 20. In Wrath of the Lich King, most of these racial spells were removed from the game while a few got revamped. Desperate Prayer replaced Holy Nova as a Holy talent (the latter spell became a basic priest spell), while Symbol of Hope and Devouring Plague were retooled and made basic priest spells. All other racial abilities were removed from the game.
Chastise the target, causing X to Y Holy damage and Incapacitates them for up to 2 sec. Any damage caused will awaken the target. Only works against Humanoids. This spell causes very low threat.
The priest becomes surrounded with anti-magic energy. Any successful spell cast against the priest will burn X of the attacker's Mana, causing 1 Shadow damage for each point of Mana burned. Lasts 15 sec.
The caster is surrounded by shadows. When a melee or ranged attacker hits the caster, the attacker will be struck for X Shadow damage. Attackers can only be damaged once every few seconds. 3 charges. Lasts 10 minutes.
