I noticed an interesting thing about gnomish engineering, which, if true, needs to be noted. While browsing my guilds rpgo-CharacterProfile roster I noticed two engineers, with the same skill, having different difficulties making the same item. One was a gnome, the other was not. It looks possible that the diffulty of making an item is based off the base skill before the +15 bonus. So, Gnome engineers not only get the +15 skill bonus initially, but get a persistent bonus to training. On the other hand this could just be a bug in the Character Profiler Addon. If true however, it implies that gnomes, and non gnomes need very different 1 to 300 guides.

Why doesn't the schematics box in the right hand side just link to http://www.wowwiki.com/Engineering_proficiency which has all the various subcategories? It seems to me that there is an unnessecary duplication of data foreshadowed Bobelf 06:43, 4 July 2007 (UTC)Bobelf

Would it be wrong to consider merging these two pages and possible create a linked listing of the World Drop/Vendor sold schematics? Because the 'Engineering_proficiency' page is a real mess imo and could do with a merge/cleanup. Evankimori 19:07, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Is it true engineers will be able to make their own mounts. Rumors about that have been going around my server, so I just wanted a legit source to see what's the truth.

Cool, guess its a good thing I switched to engineering, and is it opened to the public yet? Thanks. And to think I almost believed it was a mechanical drake :O.

Crafting Profession and Gathering Profession
Engineers are no longer bound to crafting alone. Shortly after reaching outlands engineering becomes a very viable gathering profession. The Zapthrottle Mote Extractor (http://thottbot.com/i23821) has the ability to gather 3-5 motes from floating gas clouds (Shadow : Shadowmoon, Air : Naggrand, Watter : Zangamarsh, Mana : Netherstorm)
  +
Crafted goggles allow you to see theses clouds on the mini-map making this similar to mining or Herbalism. Spawn points for gas clouds are roughly fixed and re-spawn fairly quickly.

:I think of a "gathering profession" as an inherent ability to do the gathering. While you're right, you're using a tool to extract materials, you don't level up engineering skill by using the extractor. This is more akin to using a quest item to gather <other quest item>. Still, it is an interesting thought. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 22:26, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

I thought that the 'History in the World of Warcraft' did not add to the page, rather the opposite of by filling up most of the page with unpertinent information. I've condensed it into 'Patch Changes'.

Also added the new Cataclysm enchants section, however I think this deserves its own page. What is the official name for these enchantments? I always have known them as 'Tinkers'. --Grynd (talk) 07:23, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

This is how all the racial tradeskill bonuses work.--GNiko (talk) 16:10, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Crafting Profession and Gathering Profession

Engineers are no longer bound to crafting alone. Shortly after reaching outlands engineering becomes a very viable gathering profession. The Inv gizmo zapthrottlegascollector [Zapthrottle Mote Extractor] (http://thottbot.com/i23821) has the ability to gather 3-5 motes from floating gas clouds (Shadow : Shadowmoon, Air : Naggrand, Watter : Zangamarsh, Mana : Netherstorm) Crafted goggles allow you to see theses clouds on the mini-map making this similar to mining or Herbalism. Spawn points for gas clouds are roughly fixed and re-spawn fairly quickly. sean13128 06:58, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

I think of a "gathering profession" as an inherent ability to do the gathering.
