− | Proc is a common term used in programming to refer to an event triggered under particular circumstances. For example, in WoW, a particular weapon (that hits many times) might have a 10% chance on each hit to apply a special effect, such as poison damage. When WoW users talk about "how often this weapon procs", they are talking about the likelihood of the special effect being processed. |
+ | ==Membership== |
− | Proc is otherwise sometimes short for "spec_proc" (spec_proc is short for "special procedure") which is a term used by the original programmer of Circle-MUD, Jeremy Elson. It might have been used as well by the original programmers of diku-MUD as well. Special procedures in Circle-MUD are functions that can be assigned to objects, players, and locations in the world such that each time an event occurs, the special procedure function will be invoked. Special procedures were used in Circle-MUD for a wide variety of purposes: Creating room events when a person typed a specific string of text, causing a weapon or piece of armor to perform a magical action, and even causing a MOB (mobile) to do something that it wouldn't normally do.fact (This may well be the origin of the term.) |

− | Special procedures were a way of creating unique experiences that could not be achieved by simply building the dungeon and populating it with monsters. Special procedures breathed life into these worlds by introducing extra coding that enhanced the gamer's experience without changing the underlying structure or function of the code-base. If you ever played a MUD and were walking around in a dungeon and randomly saw the text "You feel as though you are being watched," that was probably a special procedure.fact |

− | When developers and players were talking about these special procedures they abbreviated the term to "proc". Over time the noun also became a verb, "proced" ("proc'd" or "procced"), which meant that the special procedure was invoked and performed its action. Most often, players were concerned about their weapons and whether or not the weapon would perform its special attack (a proc), and so proc must have started to take on a narrower meaning for MMORPG players who were somewhat more removed from the core combat engine and flat world of MUDs.fact |

− | For weapons that have a proc, they usually have a Chance on Hit to either aid the wielder, harm his target(s) or both. Procs can also be added to weapons by enchanting them with certain enchants. Note that weapon procs do not occur for druids if feral forms. The proc-rate of a weapon is the frequency with which the weapon triggers its proc. This varies depending on the nature of the weapon and how it is wielded. Certain epic weapons have a very high chance of proc'ing (30+%), but most players report that wielding one-handed weapons in your off-hand reduces the proc-rate by 50%. |
+ | Yogg-saron spread his influence under the lich king's domain conquering ulduar using a iron army and the watchers he corrupted. |
+ | Please add any available information to this section. |
+ | ===The Shattering=== |
− | Many players argue that an item's proc-rate is not dependent upon the weapon's speed, while others insist that procs only trigger when the weapon hits and therefore the proc-rate does depend on weapon speed. In my own experience the latter is true, but it can be difficult to prove. |

− | It has been proven however that enchantment procs are based on something called Procs per Minute (PpM, PPM, or ppm). This in essence makes slower weapons, especially on a class like a rogue with instant attacks boosting their attacks per minute like crazy, actually proc more than faster weapons. |
+ | ==Disorganized text== |
− | The PPM system works as follows: The actual chance each hit with a weapon procs the effect is PPM * weapon speed / 60. |
+ | Construction |
− | Dual wielders should note that all instants (including the extra attack granted by Sword Specialization talent from Warriors & Rogues) always happen with the main hand weapon, severely increasing the number of hits per minute with that weapon. (This also explains as to why people find OH weapons proc much less, they just don't hit as much) |
+ | It is self-evident however that the Old Gods possess worshippers across all the world's peoples and cultures somehow. The Old Gods are imprisoned and asleep deep beneath the earth, but their power is so vast that their maddening, destructive taint seeps from their prisons and appears to tear away at the sanity of an unknown number of Azeroth's inhabitants. To what extent sentient beings can fall under the influence of the Old Gods in this manner is not well understood, but those who hear the Old Whisperings most clearly have joined together in a coalition that is known as the Twilight's Hammer. Most of these cultists and followers have lost every ounce of their sanity and have become completely unpredictable and malefic, and, sometimes, things which are far worse. Through the leadership of the ogre-mage Cho'gall, a powerful servant of C'Thun, the Twilight's Hammer has in recent times become the focal point for mortal worship of the Old Gods, and the cult's influence has since begun to increase alarmingly. Former members of both Alliance and Horde inexplicably flock to its service as if heeding a silent calling, and unrepentantly assist in bringing about the final hour of mortal existence on Azeroth. Large groups of the Twilight's Hammer have been observed to settle at or near sites where they believe the Old Gods or their minions are sealed away; many await C'Thun's awakening in Silithus, while others appear to serve Ragnaros in the Blackrock Depths alongside the Dark Iron dwarves. The largest concentrations of the Twilight's Hammer however are located at Grim Batol and the Bastion of Twilight, within a region of the Eastern Kingdoms that is now referred to as the Twilight Highlands. |
+ | In some cases, evil but still sane individuals have been known to deliberately turn to worship of the Old Gods out of spite, when they feel that other, more mainstream powers have mistreated them. Anarchists also sometimes fall to worship of the Old Gods out of a desire to destroy the world; some believe a new, better existence will rise up in the wake of the destruction. In either case, these individuals are deluded or misinformed and any who do manage to make even the barest real contact with the Old Gods go hopelessly and irrevocably insane. |
+ | C'Thun created avatars from the silithid in its own image during ages long past. These avatars, known as the qiraji, represent dark and powerful mockeries of life and have served as the Old God's heralds for millenia. Likewise, Yogg-Saron and N'Zoth are closely associated with the entities known only as Faceless Ones, which appear to function as heralds and avatars to these Old Gods as well. |
+ | Queen Azshara and the bulk of her Highborne seem to have fallen to, or have struck a pact with, the power of an Old God and have since become the monstrous, serpent-like naga. The naga have been seen in the presence of Faceless Ones in regions as Vashj'ir, suggesting that the darkest fears about the change which has overcome Azshara and many of the Highborne hold true. |
− | === Armor, Rings, and Trinkets === |
− | Worn items such as these can either trigger their proc when the wearer is hit in combat, when the wearer casts a spell — offensively or defensively, when the wearer uses the item, or when the wearer hits his opponent with a melee attack. That would tend to make the first proc more valuable to players who get hit quite often, in other words PVPers and warriors, the second proc useful to anyone, and the third proc most useful to melee combatants like rogues. |
− | + | == References == |
+ | reflist |
− | Some spell effects can also grant players a proc. Examples: The Druid spell Thorns grants the player a proc that damages his attackers when they strike him. The Warlock's Imp spell Fire Shield is similar to Thorns. The Shaman spell Windfury Totem causes each attack to have a chance of permitting a free attack with a bonus to their attack power. Both the Paladin seals Seal of Command and Seal of Righteousness have a chance on hit to cause holy damage (though in very different ways). |

Disorganized text
Template:Construction It is self-evident however that the Old Gods possess worshippers across all the world's peoples and cultures somehow. Large groups of the Twilight's Hammer have been observed to settle at or near sites where they believe the Old Gods or their minions are sealed away; many await C'Thun's awakening in Silithus, while others appear to serve Ragnaros in the Blackrock Depths alongside the Dark Iron dwarves.[1] The largest concentrations of the Twilight's Hammer however are located at Grim Batol and the Bastion of Twilight, within a region of the Eastern Kingdoms that is now referred to as the Twilight Highlands.
In some cases, evil but still sane individuals have been known to deliberately turn to worship of the Old Gods out of spite, when they feel that other, more mainstream powers have mistreated them.
C'Thun created avatars from the silithid in its own image during ages long past.
Queen Azshara and the bulk of her Highborne seem to have fallen to, or have struck a pact with, the power of an Old God and have since become the monstrous, serpent-like naga. The naga have been seen in the presence of Faceless Ones in regions as Vashj'ir, suggesting that the darkest fears about the change which has overcome Azshara and many of the Highborne hold true.
