In life, Death Queen Angerboda was the wife of Ymiron, king of the vrykul people. She lost her life to enemies of the Scourge while attempting to awaken her slumbering husband in Winter's Terrace. Resurrected as an undead, she now leads one of the Scourge Remnants, the Queen's Wrath Scourge.
The Raising of the Death Queen
After the death of Arthas, many of the more intelligent Scourge regained their independence and broke away from the control of the new Lich King. San'layn Blood Princes, recognizing the power that the vrykul had, schemed to take control of the mighty race. Knowing the vrykul had little respect for elves, the San'layn retrieved the corpse of Angerboda and resurrected her, plotting to use her as a pawn to manipulate the vrykul. Almost immediately, Angerboda turned on the San'layn and destroyed them, seizing control of their forces for herself. Rallying all vrykul still loyal to the ideals of the Scourge to her side, Angerboda and her forces became one of the most powerful of the Scourge remnants.
Angerboda's Scourge
Angerboda has rejected the new Lich King and his desire to keep the Scourge contained. She seeks to raise her own army, one loyal to her alone. To this end, she has seized control of the remaining vrykul forces that once served the Scourge, and taken command of the Cult of the Damned that remain in Northrend. She has focused her efforts on unearthing more of the slumbering vrykul from the Howling Fjord, where thousands still sleep in buried crypts and tombs. She is opposed in her efforts by her own son, Vidar Ymironson, who has rejected the false immortality of death and has rallied many other vrykul to his cause.
For all the dark power she has acquired and the despicable evil she has done, it is said that Angerboda still laments the death of her husband, and regrets her son's estrangement.
Quests and Storylines
Death Queen Angerboda is one of the new major powers in post-Cataclysm Northrend. She is almost as prevalent in Northrend as the former Lich King, appearing in Howling Fjord, Icecrown, and elsewhere, ever-scheming to bring more and more of the Scourge remnants under her control. This eventually brings her into outright conflict with the Scourge remnants commanded by the San'layn, as well as the forces of the Twilight's Hammer that are spreading throughout Northrend and seeking to usurp former Scourge holdings.
