Recent Changes (17 Mar 2005)

  • Bumped RM data version number to 2, due to below massive bug fix. This will cause existing RaidMinion users to see a message prompting them to update; however, they will also be greeted with an UI error message due to a bug in the update notification mechanism. Please have your users update RaidMinion as soon as possible!
  • Fixed bug causing updates to not get sent (Sky was bandwidth limiting alerts, which would lock us out from sending for ~20s at a time). This bugfix is in Sky; make sure you update Sky as well. The zip file linked below contains an updated version of Sky.

Overview

Raid Minion allows you to view the status (health and mana) of other players in the raid. It is part of Cosmos, but is also available at http://www.vlad1.com/~vladimir/misc/RaidMinion.zip along with the required addons.

It is similar in functionality to RaidBar, but with some important improvements:

  • Only one person in a group needs to be running RaidMinion to allow the entire group's status to be monitored
  • There is a simple UI for adding and removing players to your display, without needing to use slash commands
  • It uses Sky for communication, so there is no need to manually set up a chat channel and synchronize everyone into it. Additionally, people not using RM will not see any RM-related spam.

Usage

After installing RaidMinion either from the zip or from Cosmos, every user needs to (once) type /join skyraid to inform Sky that you wish to monitor the raid channel. Sky will remember this from that point on, so this only needs to be done once. Typing /chatlist should show SkyRaid in the list of "Active Sky Channels".

From the normal Raid Window, you can then control-right-click on people and select which tab to add them to. There are 5 tabs, each with a maximum of 10 players listed. You can list multiple players should you wish to. You can remove a player by right-clicking on them in the tab and selecting "Remove".

Tabs will appear when players are added to them and will disappear when all players are removed from them. You can move tabs around by dragging them, and you can target players by clicking on their name/bar area on the tab. (Note that this targetting also works for spell-targetting, e.g. hitting a heal and then clicking on a player in RM will work just as if you targetted the player via clicking on them afterward.)

Right-clicking on a tab allows you to select a number of options.

Label Options

  • None: display nothing
  • Health: display current health as a number
  • Mana: display current mana as a number
  • Debuffs: display debuff status as text; one letter each of P(oison) D(isease) M(agic) C(urse) O(other) will be displayed if the player has that effect on them.

Debuff Options

If Show Debuffs is enabled, debuff icons will be shown to the right of each player.

Class Lock

If one or more classes are selected, that tab will automatically fill up with all players in the raid of the particular class. You can't manually add players to a tab that has a class lock set; instead, select None first, and then add the players you wish to have in the tab.

Some additional commands are available via "/rm".

Common Problems

The author (me) has used RaidMinion extensively on 40-player raids, and has noticed no lag caused by it. RM uses a tiered update mechanism to try to keep the amount of update messages sent out down. However, the most common problems involve Sky being disabled in some way, or conflicts with Sky with an older version of Cosmos (one which has the old "Cosmos Chat Channel Functionality" -- which should be disabled if Sky is in use).

Future Plans

  • A clean little control window, letting you hide/show tabs.
  • Optional target hp broadcasting, for tracking main tank targets' health. (Thanks to CT for the idea!)
  • Filter debuff display based on debuff type, to be able to show only the debuffs you can cure.
