Notes
Reincarnation's most common use is for wipe recovery. A shaman is the only class capable of recovering a group from a wipe on his own. The long cooldown and the other potential use means that it is sometimes preferable to let everyone run, rather than waste a one hour cooldown to save the group a few minutes of running. Reincarnation can not be used while affected by a Warlock's Soulstone ability, potentially resulting in the shaman returning with less health and mana than he would if he had used Reincarnate. Using a Soulstone does not put Reincarnation on cooldown, however, meaning that a shaman with a Soulstone and Reincarnation could potentially return to life twice in the same fight.
The ability can also be used as a combat resurrection ability, allowing a shaman who died during a fight to reincarnate and continue fighting. This is particularly useful for raiding, and when fighting over objectives in Battlegrounds. Note that Reincarnation can not be used in PvP Arenas.
Improvements
- Improved Reincarnation reduces the cooldown by 20 minutes and increases the amount of health and mana you reincarnate with. Fully talented, you will reincarnate with 40% health and 40% mana.
- Glyph of Renewed Life removes the need for Ankhs.
Tips and tactics
- When you are in a battle and you know you are not going to win, you can find a safe place to die, wait for mobs to reset, reincarnate, and then resurrect the other players. This avoids everyone having to run back (and possibly re-clear trash), but the ability will not be available to use in a boss battle where being able to reincarnate can mean the difference between a win and a loss.
- If you are out of mana, you can choose to deliberately die and resurrect with 20-40% mana and health and continue the fight.
- Do not try this when playing solo because mobs will immediately evade when you die.
- If you reincarnate and die again you will take durability damage twice.
- You can equip the Totem of Rebirth right before you die to decrease the cooldown of this ability by 10 minutes.
- Dying will reset your threat. This is sometimes jokingly referred to as "the shaman aggro dump", and unlike Feign Death it cannot be resisted.
