. He is a member of the Eclipsion blood elves. His death is required if the [The Cipher of Damnation] is to be recreated.

According to the dialogue with  Grand Commander Ruusk in the quest What Illidan Wants, Illidan Gets..., Ruul the Darkener is also the champion of the Eclipsion, and in this case, used to deliver and protect their important artifact, The Cipher of Damnation. He appears to be wielding two [Thunderfuries].
