The Sacred Artifact is recovered by players deep in the Utgarde Catacombs before being handed off to Lord Irulon Trueblade and Tirion Fordring in Valgarde.
The artifact is in fact [Ashbringer], the corrupted blade wrested from the hands of Alexandros Mograine during the assault on Naxxramas.
