Coilfang was released with the Burning Crusade on January 16 2007, at 12:01 AM EST

The name of the realm was taken from an area located in Zangarmarsh called Coilfang Reservoir. During the early days, this realm had one of the lowest Alliance population with a 1:12 Alliance-to-Horde ratio. Based on recent population census, the realm showed a 1:1.8~2.5 Alliance-to-Horde ratio which is fairly normalized but there are signs of temporal inactivity from the Alliance community in this realm.

In the past, Coilfang was part of the Cataclysm battlegroup, which used to have silly battleground queue times. on 19th June 2007, a merger took place between Cataclysm and Frenzy to form the new battlegroup - Retaliation.
