Community and Other Realm Trivia
Coilfang is based on Coilfang Reservoir. It is an area located in Zangarmarsh. The structure itself is a subterranean pumping station, operated by the sinister Naga. This very pumping station used a series of reverse osmosis and nanofiltration in order to produce all of Outland's (and, allegedly, some of the Dark Legion's) potable water. Initially the pumping station operated at a loss, being funded by the Treasury of Shattrath with monetary proceeds from Repair bills. However, with Kael'thas attacking A'dal's home city, the Naaru devoted the entire treasury for purposes of war. The Naaru began transmuting gold at a record pace, causing rampant inflation (and is the primary reason there is an excess of gold in Outland). This caused the Naga operating the pumping station to mutiny and to begin to charge exorbitant rates for water, a resource on which they now had vertical and horizontal integration. The Naaru saw this as grounds for war. For this reason, the Sha'tar have employed many freelance mercenary groups to invade the Coilfang Reservoir and murder their leader, which should cause the Naga's hegemony in that area to decay into chaotic ruin.
Coilfang Reservoir has a fairly interesting topography. The dungeon is made up of gigantic caverns with huge pipes descending from the ceiling powered by titanic crystal capacitors. While the entrance to the Reservoir is underwater, the instances themselves are only partially submerged, similar to the Blackfathom Deeps.
It is composed of four instances, three 5-man and one 25-man raid instance. In that sense Coilfang is a bit like Hellfire Citadel, where you have two 5-man instances that can be considered level-up content: The Slave Pens, a level 61 to 64 instance and The Underbog, a level 62 to 65 instance. Then you have The Steamvault, a level 70 five-man instance and Serpentshrine Cavern, a 25-man raid zone.
The aim of the Coilfang Naga is apparently to control the water of Outland, which is becoming a rare commodity on the continent. Although no evidence exists, one theory is that they are attempting to gather enough water to create a new Well of Eternity for Illidan.
General Community
Started January 16, 2007 (launch of TBC)
Coilfang is a PvP server that is mostly populated with Blood Elves. This realm has one of the least Alliance populations. It had 1:12 A to H ratio during the early period. But is now 1:2.1. Alliance is almost non-existing. This is the reason that many guilds transferred off the server (e.g. Carebears, Cry More). Really huge advantage for the Horde doing some quests and dailies.
The battlegroup (Cataclysm) also had very bad queue times for the Horde. With its recent merge (Cataclysm and Frenzy = Retaliation) the queue times became faster (but still not that fast). Horde wins AV most of the time but they lose WSG, AB and EotS a lot. As of 2.3.2, the Horde have begun to lose AV as well thanks to the Blitzkrieg strategy of the Alliance on this battlegroup.
As of now, Deus (orc warrior) is the famous QQer hated by both the Horde and the Alliance. He's inactive now maybe because he can't take all the insults anymore. Six months later, Deus came across this tidbit and was highly amused upon reading it. He even provided a picture to indicate this: The Great One

Most advanced progression PvE: Syndicate (Horde)(Illidan downed January 20, 2008, next is Katipunan then Kopitiam.
Number ONE guild to watch for progression PVE: S T R I K E (Horde) S T R I K E and Noah's Ark are destined to merge and become the next Coilfang Alliance, so watch for this in the forums and in game.

No.1 Ganker : Vizz (Alliance Hunter). Ignore the Arena ratings, as they are meaningless on Coilfang.
