Character

A half-human, half-high elf rogue in the service of Theramore.

Lans Aseran is a straightforward, honest individual with an equally honest love of carnage and mayhem. Not a diplomat or politician by any stretch of the imagination, Lans is a warrior to the core, as well as a strategist, scout, archer, and spy of noteworthy skill. He is often assigned missions of a nature befitting his martial inclinations, and finds himself well at home on Kalimdor's rugged frontier.

Appearance

Lans is of average height, lean build, and possessed of angular though otherwise unremarkable features. He has ink-black hair and very dark eyes, and his gaze has a perpetually unfocused, far-off look, as if constantly staring off into space--commonly this is thought to be a indicative of an erratic nature, but in reality he has simply trained himself to always take in the full breadth of his surroundings, whether needful or not (with great prowess comes great paranoia, so he would comment). He carries himself well, decades of martial training evident in his strong bearing. By appearance it is difficult to place his age, though he is over 50 years old and, short of meeting an (appropriate) end in combat, has at least a century more of life to expect thanks to his mixed blood.

In demeanor, he is generally approachable and good-natured, despite his enthusiastic outlook on violence. His voice is gravelly and touched with a rakish accent, a remnant of his early upbringing in Stratholme, though thanks to later years spent in Booty Bay his dialogue is peppered with odd slang and no small amount of habitual profanity. He is difficult to truly anger, easily entertained, and makes no excuses for his uncomplicated nature.

Fighting Style

Though he is a trained in heavy cavalry as well as infantry fighting, since the conclusion of the Third War he has eschewed the harness and polearm in favor of leather armor and light weapons, for all intents and purposes taking up the calling of the rogue--though he makes a point to occasionally spend time training in full plate with heavy weapons and shield, simply to keep the full breadth of his abilities as sharp as possible. Usually, though, he prefers to remain as mobile on his feet as he can, his only concession to armor being boiled leather and perhaps a steel cuirass or mail shirt, engaging in close melee with longsword and knife, or just a pair of daggers.

Lansiron's style of engagement is, in a word, brutal. Despite his mobile approach and reflexive finesse, he will strike quickly and viciously at any possible opening, and is unhesitant to play any advantage over his opponents he may have without mercy. It's part intimidation, part honed reflex, and part raw force. He likes to call it "good strategy".

Background

Early Years

Lansiron was born in Stratholme to a noble courtesan named Selana Aseran and her husband, Captain Glenthelas Morgandel, an itinerant high elf privateer. He and his brother, Marlain, were raised by their mother, his father a singularly irresponsible individual who rarely visited. At age 10, though, he was "kidnapped" by a close friend of his father's (a rogue Forest Troll berserker named Jit Bleedingoak, much to his mother's distress) and brought south across the Eastern Kingdoms to Booty Bay. At his father's behest, he was to spend time at sea and learn the ways of the buccaneer, paving his way to follow in his sire's footsteps. Lans would not have objected had he not immediately fallen ill after setting out to sea--a seasick swashbuckler-in-training would have been a sad sight indeed.

So instead of becoming a sailor, Lansiron was taken under the wing of Jit Bleedingoak, the troll, and taught the ways of the blade over the next several years. (Nowadays, when those who have seen Lans in combat learn he originally learned the art from a troll berserker, they no longer question where he gets his vicious streak.)

The Second War

When he was around sixteen, Lansiron returned to Stratholme, but shortly following his return came news of war in Azeroth against the orcs that had come in through the Dark Portal. It was not long until Lord Lothar rode north to plead an alliance between the human kingdoms.

Young Aseran was among those that took up arms to fight for the Alliance, and fight he did, with great enthusiasm. He was on the walls of Stromgarde when Doomhammer's fleet launched their first major heavy assault, and alongside his elven cousins, defended Quel'thalas during the trolls' invasion. He marched south under Lordaeron's banner when the Alliance pushed the Horde back to their stronghold of Blackrock Spire, bore witness to the fateful duel between Lord Lothar and Warchief Doomhammer, and was there when the remnants of the Horde were pushed back through the Portal. To the present, he looks back to the days of the Second War as some of his finest.

After returning to Lordaeron, Lans was knighted Sir Lansiron Aseran of Stratholme by King Terenas. For his valor as a footman he was offered an opportunity training to become a Knight of the Silver Hand, but he chose to decline--he was never a particularly religious person, placing far more faith in good, solid steel rather than spirituality and mysticism, and though honored by the offer, he did not see himself a good fit to the Order's ecclesiastical ranks. Instead, he chose to hone his strategic and martial skills over the next decade or so, traveling the kingdoms north of the Thandol Span with various companies in service to the Alliance.

The Third War

When the plague struck Lordaeron, Lans loyally answered the call of Prince Arthas when it came to fighting off this new threat--and he was among the many who turned away in horror when the Mad Prince began his culling, starting with the razing of Stratholme. Though his mother who lived there had died peacefully of old age some years back, the horrifying purge still shook him to the core, and the news of the burning of Qual'thalas, home of many a wartime friend and cousin, simply twisted the knife. His brother, too, had been training under the mages of the Kirin Tor in Dalaran, but was also presumed lost when Archimonde laid the city to waste.

Lansiron declared his loyalty under Jaina Proudmoore's banner when the fleet set sail for Kalimdor, with the last living vestiges of Lordaeron. He was at the Archmage's command during the skirmishes with Thrall's orcs at Stonetalon Peak, but eagerly supported a truce with the Horde for the cause of defending against the Burning Legion's threat. At the climax of the war, he stood with Proudmoore alongside the Horde and the Sentinels under Archimonde's relentless assault at the Battle of Mount Hyjal.

Following the war, Lansiron continued to wholeheartedly support Lady Proudmoore, even through the tumultous conflict with Grand Admiral Daelin Proudmoore that followed Theramore's founding. To this day, he pledges his full loyalty to the Archmage, and is quick to follow through with any orders or directives issued by her or her council.

Recent History

Over the past few years, Lansiron has taken it upon himself to do a lot of traveling when not on duty in Theramore Port. His journeys have largely been in Kalimdor, but has ventured back to the Eastern Kingdoms on many frequent occasions.

He has fought and traveled alongside a number of companies, including the now-defunct Autumn Weave of Darnassus and with the Obsidian Moon Company under Kassandrra Larktavel. A short while ago, he took up arms to fight under the banner of John Errence in a series of strategic hit-and-run assaults against the denizens of Blackrock Mountain, which continue to this day, keeping the dragons of the Spire and the elementals beneath the Depths crippled and distracted, and lessen their threat against the Alliance. More recently, though, he has begun working miscellaneous tasks for the Wildfire Riders, a mercenary company based in Stormwind. Despite this, his ultimate loyalties still belong to Theramore.

He ran supplies for a time with the Cenarion Circle for both Horde and Alliance during the war with the Qiraji, and served as a messenger for Theramore coordinating plans with Orgrimmar in preparation for the recent Scourge Invasion, during which he spent a lot of time in Ratchet. He keeps in close touch with the Steamwheedle Cartel, occasionally doing odd jobs for them, and maintaining a steady friendship with some of their representatives.

Since the opening of the Dark Portal, he has been placed indefinitely under the command of Danath Trollbane, by order of Theramore.

Lansiron has no particular grievance with the Horde. He will not hesitate to lend his sword arm in dire need, but will not otherwise go out of his way to start any fights with any of Thrall's orcs, Darkspear trolls, the tauren, or even the Forsaken. He has a deep measure of respect for them, in truth, and oddly enough the Forsaken in particular for the bloodying-of-the-nose they dealt Arthas after the Third War, and the thought of Lordaeron in their hands is far preferably than for the Scourge to still possess it.
