Lore: Kael'Thas Sunstrider

The last surviving heritor of the Sunstrider dynasty, Prince Kael'Thas Sunstrider is the supreme leader of the Blood Elves. Banished from Kalimdor by Malfurion Stormrage for refusing to turn from destructive forms of magic and sorcery, the Blood Elves are the distant descendants of the ancient Night Elf race.

Voyaging across the Great Sea, the banished elves established a massive empire in the northern reaches of the Eastern Kingdom. In time, the younger races of the Horde and Alliance discovered the Blood Elves and swore pacts of fealty in exchange for tutoring in the Arts Magical. The Blood Elves, along with these new mortal allies, are responsible for the shattering of Troll civilization.

In the current era, Prince Kael'Thas rivaled with Prince Arthas Menethil for the heart of Jaina Proudmoore, an upstart and beautiful sorceress from the Kirin Tor and daughter of famed Admiral Proudmoore. Prince Kael'Thas failed to triumph in winning the affections of Jaina, due primarily to his very advanced (if unnoticeable) age.


At the conclusion of the Third War (the Rise of the Scourge), the majority of the Blood Elven empire lay in ruins. Throwing lots with Illidan Stormrage, Prince Kael'Thas led his people to Outland, established a shining new reign over the Netherstorm.

Until recent events, Prince Kael'thas held court in The Eye. However, heroes of Azeroth and Outland have forced Prince Kael'thas to retreat from his Netherstorm throne and seek the refuge of Sunwell Plateau.

When did Kael'Thas open? 
Kael'Thas became the 46th player-versus-environment (PvE) realm on October 19, 2005. The PvP realm Cho'Gull and the RP realm Kirin Tor debuted the same evening. Together, they are the 109th, 110th, and 111th realms to open for players in North America and Oceania. Hollow's End was the current world event and 1.8 was the current patch version of World of Warcraft. Malfurion and (Oceania-preferred) Khaz'goroth replaced Kael'thas as the newest PvE servers on November 8, 2005.
