The Maelstrom US server launched on September 13, 2005, alongside Emerald Dream US as one of the two initial RP-PvP servers in World of Warcraft. According to data provided by WarcraftRealms.com as of June 6, 2008, Maelstrom holds approximately 14,585 characters with a 1.2 : 1 Alliance to Horde ratio.
