Forum Trolls (and Heroes)
Nordrassil has carried the mantle of a 'carebear' realm for months, and as such frequents the realm of online drama, both in-game and in the realm forums. The most notable piece of drama in recent memory has been the "Nordrassil Top News" thread [86], which boasts an enormous amount of views and replies. The orchestrator of the thread, Crystals, snipes at Nordrassil's major guilds as a level 2 female Dwarven rogue (he is clearly a trend breaker). The identity of Crystals is still unknown, although he has circulated a screenshot of himself at level 75. All of the racial leader NPCs accept [Crystals' Head] turn-ins in stacks of five.
Another Troll that frequents the Nordrassil forums is an arrogant ex member of the realm that left to seek greener pastures. The guild still survives in one form or another and has progressed but said player still finds it pleasing to come back and insult his old home. His old routine of ZOMG I IS LIKE SO AWESOME , which he sadly probably believes , is generally followed by a barage of low alts condemning him and his words . This is then answered with his usual smarmy replies about getting people to bite like fish. He would have us believe that he's a real player in game and in the real world but his childish remarks speak for themselves. Lets all pray he'll go away and combust.
On the other hand, Nordrassil is occasionally visited by two other 'trolls', Jahmaan and Labrax. Both concentrate on comedic and entertaining posts to lift the spirits of Nordrassil. Jahmaan often focuses on guides for players, while Labrax prefers the dramatic approach, often involving his characters Borax and Droodman, although he is not above taking a cheap shot at himself. Both have received mentions on the WoW Europe front page, although Lab is often rejected due to his criticism of the game and the lore surrounding it. Jahmaan's guide to new players remains one of the most viewed topics on the Nordrassil forums.
Jahmaan is rumored to have a liking of short, hairy, muscle-bound men with smelly arm pits and bad breath (in RL that is, what he likes in game is anyones guess).
Labrax has a lot of fun talking in the third person and greatly enjoyed writing this paragraph.
The Lesser Realm
Nordrassil's other name. In its battlegroup Nordrassil is consider rather 'backwater' to its unfriendly sister realms. Especially those such as Magtheridon, the realm in which-obviously-everyone is a member of Nihilum and rides on the back of their success in PvE.
However it cannot be denied that the other realms in Conviction Battlegroup have steamed ahead of Nordrassil in PvE progress in the past. Yet the inhabitants of Nordrassil thrive on the drama and social lives, which have been the downfall of this lesser realm's PvE progress. Recently certain inhabitants seem to be more focused on the hardcore aspect of the game though, one such guild being Precedent which is now among the top european raiding guilds.
As for being the lesser realm in PvP, well look at our server tag and work it out for yourself.
Nordrassil's Legendary History
From the day the server was taken online in November 2005 until the day they left, in May 2007, the members who comprised the guild <Unit> (previously known as Iratus Lepus) remained the most progressed Alliance raiding guild in the realm. <Unit> had been the most progressed of all guilds on the server until the arrival of <Mortalis> - who went on to become <Precedent>. <Unit> guild achieved server first kills on every boss prior to Naxxramas with the following exceptions: Kazzak <Tainted>; Onyxia <Immune>; Hakkar <Wildrunners>. <Unit> were also the guild who opened the gates of Ahn'Qiraj on Nordrassil, having done the necessary farming almost exclusively but having recieved assistance from <Fallen Legion> and <Immune> in the defeat of Eranikus.
The progression mantle was passed to <Mortalis> as both guilds made their way through Naxxramas. With the release of the Burning Crusade expansion <Unit> found themselves in disarray and without the numbers to attempt 25 man dungeons. The Horde guilds <Precedent> (ex-<Mortalis>) and <The Council> (now forming a large proportion of <Valio>) surged ahead into the 25 man raid dungeons while the Alliance had to console itself with <Unit>'s server first Shade of Aran and Netherspite kills in the 10 man dungeon Karazhan. A new guild soon came to the fore in the shape of <Kwaidan>, a guild formed from the ashes of <Immune>, members of <Unit> and <Horde Empire> and several cross realm transfers. <Kwaidan> now sit second behind <Precedent> in Nordrassil's progression list. As it stands the Horde rule the realm of Nordrassil.
<Unit> recovered to the extent that they could again raid 25 man dungeons and continued to be the most progressed Alliance guild on Nordrassil until their departure. They had achieved Alliance first kills on Gruul the Dragonkiller, Magtheridon, Hydross the Unstable, Morogrim Tidewalker, Voidreaver, Kazzak, and Doomwalker and had also killed High King Maulgar, The Lurker Below and Fathom Lord Karathress, the three latter encounters having first been conquered by <Fallen Legion>. No other bosses had been defeated by the Alliance at the time of <Unit>'s departure. They ended as they had begun: as the best the faction had to offer.
Envy and resentment would tell a different story of Nordrassil's history: the suggestion that in order to be the best <Precedent> must 'have no lives', the very same accusation levelled at <Unit> in it's heyday. Given that the private, personal and professional lives of members of such guilds are beyond the knowledge of most, there is no definitive answer as to how such guilds are able to devote so much time to the game and the state of their lives is subject to individual opinion. These guilds of course deny the above accusations as is to be expected, nobody wants to admit to letting a video game run their lives.
<Precedent>, <Kwaidan> and <Fallen Legion> rely significantly on cross realm migration into Nordrassil to suit their recruitment needs. <Unit> went one step further and migrated the remnants of their guild and are now thriving again on the Silvermoon realm. Many Alliance players have followed them from Nordrassil to join other guilds on Silvermoon.
Nordrassil Alliance goes on ignorant to the fact that should its remaining flagship guild, <Fallen Legion>, ever decide to cease its own existence or choose to leave the realm, Nordrassil itself will become perhaps the worst performing (Alliance) server in the entire EU, even if we include new servers released at the same time as the expansion. The realm's Alliance population dwindles even now. Might it one day find itself in a situation like a few other realms now do: no means of survival other than a merger with another lowly populated server and the subsequent name change that must come with such a merger? The answer is of course most probably.
While Nordrassil's failures would continue happily to condemn and criticise its hardcore players - as is exemplified by the flames and insults levelled at the recently formed <Revenant> - as they nurture the 'carebear' community they have helped create, they lack the foresight to envisage what may happen to their beloved community should they drive all progression minded players away from the faction and indeed the realm: the very death of that community.
What will always remain is the servers once proud history. Noteworthy guilds who have come and gone, and some who remain with us still: <De Muerte>, <Fallen Legion>, <Horde Empire>, <Immune>, <Phoenix Rising>, <Saga>, <Sky>, <Splinter>, <Tainted>, <The Fellowship Elites>, <Unit>, <Virtue>, <Wildrunners>. Those who have joined us in the modern age: <Precedent>, <Kwaidan>, <Valio> (<The Council>), <Revenant>.
The above, while accurate on kills is a very opinionated view of the Nordrassil Server.
Nordrassil's Continuing History: Life after Unit
So Unit left...
The server wasn’t shut down; Fallen Legion didn’t in fact leave and life strangely carried on as normal.
Drama on the realm forum declined. Posts commenting on how incredibly poor the Nordrassilian player base was came to an abrupt end. These were in instead replaced by newly formed guilds looking for new members, threads asking you how famous the person above you is and requests asking for the spamming of the weapon known as Dirge to cease and desist.
Life on Nordrassil went on.
Fallen Legion takes up the mantle of the Alliance's most progressed guild. Taking a different tact to Unit, they let their boss kills do the talking. Mystic step up to fill the gap left by an unsuccessful merger of Phoenix Rising and Splinter, the remnants of which were lost to the open wastes of Ghostlands. The Gauntlet, one of the oldest guild on the server takes third place and suddenly the Alliance isn't doing that badly. The disturbing prophecy that stated with the departure of Unit the world as Nordrassilians knew it would come to an end, doesn’t in fact come to pass.
Soon a slow trickle of Nordrassil’s prodigal sons start to return. Disillusioned with their new servers they seek solace in the one thing that they once despised. Unit members start to post again from their new home on Slivermoon, proving the saying that it’s sometimes good to go where everyone knows your name.
Guilds come and go, some old, some new. Paranoia is lost to the great guild grave yard in the sky, Prepared take a step up by downing kael and vashj, and Phoenix Rising is reformed.
The Horde continue with their unrelenting progress with Precedent, Kwadian and Valio; proof that you can be a successful guild and a nice bunch of people at the same time. Horde Empire re-join the battle and take their rightful position with the top guilds.
And Vikrig continues to charge ridiculous prices for his Gems.
Life on Nordrassil goes on.
Life seems to always find a way, big guilds may leave but there will always be guilds that step up to fill the gap.
Life on Nodrassil will go on, long live carebears and long may Nordrassil continue.
- Downdrassil
Removed because it was written by someone who obviously never played on any other realm, least of all a release realm with a queue of 300 to get on line and significantly worse performance than Nordrassil ever had.
Probably the most famous guild to ever grace the Nordrassil server. Described by it's creator Romyna as "A STRONG GUILD BUILT IN 3 DAYS!" it soon became legendary to the common folk on the server. This was mainly due to the constant spamming of the aforementioned phrase constantly in city general (or IF general, it was so long ago I don't think the city channels were linked) and a few legendary threads on the realm forum.
- The Personality Cult of Bubbles
A phenomenon largely created by the average players of Nordrassil but cleverly managed and maintained by a paladin who "should know better". Bubbles has always been one of Nordrassil's better players but by no means the best, even within his own class, Lemartes and Danny being just two with more ability. Proclamations of Bubbles' superiority soon began to rub off on a few of the realms more naive populace, significantly on those who were overly grateful for a place in his guild <Phoenix Rising>, maybe one of the best guilds when Bubbles drove it relentlessly towards that goal and certainly not now that he prefers focussing on more casual aspects of the game, such as levelling his alts. This has allowed the guild to lapse into a casual malaise. Tales that would appear everyday and mundane to the outsider looking in (indeed to a great many on the realm itself who prefer silence rather than upsetting the preppie masses of Nordrassil) take on an escalated grandeur when attributed to Bubbles. Nonetheless Bubbles will undoubtedly be remembered in prominence when the realm of Nordrassil finally breathes it's last: by the realm' underachievers as the figurehead of a vessel which has proved that mediocrity can at least achieve some things in the game. The reader is invited to witness the Personality Cult of Bubbles in action, below, in an extract provided by one of the aforementioned fan boys who persist in perpetuating the myth that Bubbles a) has a personality b) has particular talent:
As many Nordrassilains will already know: Bubbles is a legend. However this tale just adds another story to the Bubbles saga and deserves to be told. It was a stormy night in the World Warcraft and Bubble and Shenxlong were taking part in some arena matches as many people do, however this night was different. They came across a team called smokeweedeveryday who, judging by the name, really needed a beating: thus an epic battle commenced. Shenxlong managed to slay one of their foes however his victory was short lived as a hunter took his remaining life and banished him from the world of the living. Although distraught with the loss of his friend Bubbles' will did not falter, it did not falter for 2 hours as he remained in the arena out healing all the damage a hunter could throw at him, until finally-2 hours and 3 minutes later-Bubbles was killed and the opposing team was victorious.
Some hunters spend 2 hours trying to down Azuregos, others spend that time trying to down Bubbles. Which has better loot, who knows?
This fight spawned the following thread:
