The Sha'tar was launched on Tuesday, 16th January 2007, when The Burning Crusadewas released.

It is the sixth English language European roleplaying realm to launch, and at first did not get a free character migration, because it was intended as a new server so that people could start their new Blood elf or Draenei characters on a new server. The paid character transfer is now open. More recently, free character transfers did open, from the Argent Dawn realm.

As a roleplaying realm, The Sha'tar has stricter rules than normal or PVP realms. The server has a good population of roleplayers, with many guilds devoted to roleplaying. Despite having a few unpleasant people, the population is friendly and open to newcomers.

The Origin of 'the Sha'tar' name[]

The Server The Sha'tar thanks its name to the faction called Sha'tar. The Sha'tar ('born from light') are the group of naaru that helped the Aldor, the order of draenei priests formerly led by Velen, reclaim Shattrath City. Their leader is A'dal, found on the Terrace of Light. The Sha'tar are aided by the Aldor and their rivals, the blood elf faction known as the Scryers. Both factions fight for the favor of the naaru so that they may be assisted in the war by the naaru's powers.
